Term 3
Autumn 2020
Term 2 - home learning while waiting for a test or results
Hello Year 6. Stuck at home waiting for a test or results? Getting bored? Don't worry - we've got plenty to not only keep you occupied but to help to consolidate your skills as well. Don't forget to keep a record of your learning to share with us once you are able to return. We look forward to seeing you back in school soon.
Summer 2020
Hello Year 6!
Welcome back again. We hope you had a great half term break. As restrictions are a little more relaxed than during the Easter holidays, we’re sure some of you have ventured further afield which must have been exciting. We’ve no doubt that you do, but just remember to take care so that you and others stay safe.
So here we are at the start of another term of learning. You’ll see that the focus has changed a little bit. We’re going to start a new book in a couple of weeks: Holes by Louis Sacher. No doubt some of you will wish to order your own copy of the book – just as some of you did with The Arrival and Letters from the Lighthouse – which is why we won’t get started on it right away. There’s no obligation to spend money on the book, though, as we’ll record and upload everything you need to the website so you won’t miss out.
In Geography, we’re going to look at both the physical and human geography of Mexico and how one impacts on the other. We’ll learn about the Ancient Maya civilisation that lived in and around Mexico in the past.
Mrs Kempe has put together another fine selection of Maths to embed your current skills and knowledge as well as to challenge you further. And, no doubt, there’ll be a few more jokes in there as well!
We’ve also got Music, French and some more PE ideas as well as Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) later in the term – your parent will be emailed about this first.
Hello Year 6
Welcome to Remote Learning. Nothing replaces seeing you all face-to-face every day but we're looking forward to continuing learning with you - even if it isn't quite in the way we might have wanted. Your starter packs are coming home with you today (Friday 20th March) or will be in the post if you can't be with us. Each day we'll direct you to the bit of the pack we would like to complete as well as setting other challenges. Some things will be very directed and straightforward. Others will give you the freedom to make choices depending on your own particular interests and circumstances.
Remember how important it is to repeatedly recall facts and skills in order for them to be secure in the long term memory? Don't be afraid to repeat certain challenges, particularly if you found something tricky the first time. Keep our four learning behaviours in mind - reflectiveness, resourcefulness, reciprocity and resilience - and try to apply them to all that you do.
If you can, upload photos of your learning to Twitter so we can see what you've been up to (much as we'd love to see your smiling faces, please think carefully about how to keep safe online and what you are posting).
Make sure you spend time outside - when and where it's sensible to do so - and keep moving as it's so important for both your physical and mental well-being. We can't wait to try Joe Wick's daily workouts and hopefully the thought of us adults bouncing around will put a smile on your faces!
A bientôt (look it up!)
