Hello Year 5 or  ဟလို ('ming-gah-lah-bahr')as they say in Myanmar!

Did your newspaper reports really show the excitement and mystery surrounding the discovery of Tutankhamun's tomb? Did you name your newspaper? How much do you remember about measurement and time? This is a very important part of every day learning so try to keep looking at your clocks to keep practising.  

Today's book recommendation comes from: Jessica Rowlands! 'A Boy Called Hope' by Lara Williamson

A story about a family and how wishes can come true, even if they aren't quite what you wished for in the first place. It's both sad and happy in places, and shows that sometimes a little bit of hope can go a long way! 

Word of the Day:  Menstruation 

Look up what the word means, what word group it belongs to, place it accurately into a sentence and work out what prefixes/ suffixes could be added (remember this last one doesn't always count!). 

09:00 - 09:30: Reading.

Read for 15mins or to the end of the next chapter in your book. 

Read the poem Dear Mrs. Butler by Allan Ahlberg. 

• Create your own Dear Mrs. Butler poem, but the change the name! So, it could be 'Dear Miss. Martin', 'Dear Mrs. Hudson' or 'Dear Miss Bowles!'. If you work with a friend, you could make up a verse each!

09:30 - 10:30: We are continuing with our Measurement topic this week! 

Timetables! (Today and tomorrow!). 

Have a go at the warm-up, spending 10 minutes on recapping some of our work on converting measurement. 

Work through Wednesday 8th July - Maths Work Sheet. You will have the 2 lessons to work on the tasks, so take your time & don't rush! 

10:30 - 10:45: Break/ Snack/ Exercise. 

Sports Day Practice: Balancing a packet of crisps, sweeties or a book on your head.

Use one of these things and practice balancing them on your head. Try going in a straight line first. Go as far as you can without dropping the object. 

10:45 - 11:15: SPaG. 

Look at Grammar Flipchart - Conditional Sentences! 

Look through the slides for Wednesday 8th July - Read through the spelling warm-up. Then, havea  look through the slides which look at conditional sentences and how they are formed. You also have a small recap on modal verbs. Afterwards, try writing your own conditional sentences. 

11:15 - 12:15: English/Writing. The Time-Travelling Cat 

This week, we are going to use the Time Travelling Cat book as inspiration for our own time-travelling story on Ancient Egypt! As we would in school, we are going to build up our ideas, but you can be making other notes all the time. 

1. First, you will need two characters. So, in your books, draw the main character and a minor character, who will be his/her friend.
2. Mindmap/brainstorm words to describe what they look like and how they behave! 
3. Write a paragraph about each! 
   1. How are they friends?
   2. How did they meet?

12:15 - 1:15: Lunch/Exercise. 

Try to get some fresh air if it is safe and appropriate to do so.

1:15- 1.30: Quiet Reading Time: 'I was There'

Listen to Chapter 7 of I Was There. This book tells the story of the discovery of King Tutankhamun's tomb, by a boy who was the water carrier. So it gives you a different perspective on this.  Click on our remote audio book page. We will be using this book later on in the term. 

1:30 - 2:45: Enquiry: History!  Ancient Egyptian Timeline! 

Look at the timeline and follow the instructions.

2:45 - 3:00: Philosophical Question. 

Today's Question: Which song sums you up? It could be the music or the lyrics. 

Spend some time during dinner or at some point in the evening, discussing this with the other people at home! We're sure there will be some interesting responses.

Yesterday's Q: How can you feel music? 

Mrs. Hudson: When I was little my brother had some huge speakers that when he turned the music up, you could see them or things on them vibrate with the sound. However, I think this question is more about the emotional response that people feel when they hear a piece of music, causing them to dance or be reflective. It is amazing how it music is one of the arts that does inspire such a physical response in people. 

Miss Martin: Sometimes, when I listen to a piece of music which has a crescendo or if it's a song which has meaning to me, I get goosebumps! Play a piece of music and you might end up feeling a certain way afterwards or start thinking about something. Ever sit in the car, looking out the window listening to some music and then you imagine you're in a music video of some sort? Or is that just me....
