Wednesday 6th May

Philosophical Question:

Today's food for thought....

Is everything connected?

Word of the day:   prosperity

Challenges:

- Find out what it means and write the definition in your own words!
- What is its word class?

- How many syllables does it have (clap each syllable to help you)?

- Make a list of synonyms and antonyms

- Can you use it in an interesting sentence?

Are you able to use it, appropriately, when you are speaking or in any of your writing opportunities?

Reading Challenge:

Last week you guys smashed the challenge we set you! You most certainly found some obscure places to read!

This week it is bingo time but with a reading twist....

in a door way

on a rug

on the grass

by a washing machine

with a flashlight

in the wardrobe

with a pet

lying on the floor

in a sleeping bag

under a blanket

by a window

in your pyjamas

Each day pick 1 of these challenges, by the end of the week, 5 should be ticked off meaning BINGO! For every challenge, take a photo ready to send them to your teacher at the end of the week! You can download the free PicCollage app to place all of your pictures in one collage.

This is the last day of Maths this week as tomorrow is our special VE remembrance day and then it is the bank holiday so please complete lesson 3 from this week's White Rose Resources.

Lesson 3.

SPaG

In a piece of writing on the subject ‘Wild weather’, each paragraph focuses on a different type of extreme weather. Write what each paragraph might be about like the focus text.

In the document below, you will find some pictures to support you with this.

English

Read/Listen to Chapter 6 Demon Dentist!

Who does she think she is?

Firstly, let’s look at who Winnie is. David Walliams has introduced her as a social worker. I found it really interesting how David described her. Look at the mind map I created with how she is described!

Starter: Write me 3 sentences about Winnie.

  1. A simple sentence
  2. A compound sentence
  3. A complex sentence

If you need a refresher about what these different sentence types are look below:

Task

Today I would like you to think about the following question! There isn’t a wrong or right answer, it is your opinion – based upon facts in the book.

‘Do you think Dad should have called for Winnie’s help?’

It is important to gather your ideas together for this so like we would in class, create a table with two columns – for and against!  Listen back to the story and make notes for each opinion.

There is no requirement here for any additional research – it is about unpicking and using the book for support.

For – why do you think Dad made the right decision asking for help?

Against – why don’t you think Alfie should have?

We will use the notes/thoughts/opinions generated today to form a discussion paragraph tomorrow.

Below you will find a for and against table which I have started which may support you initially.

Religious Education

Today, we are thinking more deeply about Diwali and in particular, the goddess, Lakshmi. Lakshmi represents good fortune and prosperity and you will be reading and retelling the story of Lakshmi and the clever washerwoman. You will then write down the blessings you would like to bestow on yourself, friends and family, school, your local community and the world in general.

Also remember to have your last practise of the VE day songs before our sing along tomorrow.
