Good Morning, Year 5! *virtual handshake*

We hope you had another successful day of remote learning yesterday and we look forward to sharing today's activities! :-)

Listed below is our suggested timetable for the day. Remember, you can adapt and edit the times you do these tasks to suit the timetable you have at home :-)

 Word of the Day: Afforestation

Like you would in school, look up what this word means, what word group it belongs to, place it accurately into a sentence and work out what prefixes/ suffixes could be added (remember this last one doesn't always apply).

09:00 - 09:30: Reading:

Read for 15 minutes or read to the end of the next chapter. If you're reading a Fiction book, think about your setting. Can you draw it? Then, create a 'mind map' with words and phrases from the text around it, that helped you form your drawing.

09:30 - 10:30: Maths.

Complete 'Maths Task - Number and Place Value' below, into your Maths book. Use the additional handouts 'Written Numbers as Words handout', 'Roman Numerals Handout' and the 'Place Value chart' to help you.

10:30-10:45: Break.

Have a snack and try to get some fresh air if possible. Alternatively, follow the link below to The Body Coach TV, where Joe Wicks is recording great home workouts for children!

10:45-11:15: Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar.

From your comprehension pack in Week 1: The Pied Piper of Hamelin. Complete the 'Word' level.

11:15-12:15: English.

Use your Comprehension sheet: 'Week 1 The Pied Piper of Hamelin'. Look at the picture and think about the words the poem uses to describe the Pied Piper. Brainstorm your own words. Use a dictionary or a thesaurus too. Can you create a simile?

Now, create your own character profile of him. Write about what he looks like and how he behaves. Use as much detail as possible and a variety of sentence structures (complex - subordinate clauses, relative clauses - and simple) in at least two paragraphs. Use the 'Year 5 Writing Support Mat' to think about how to 'up-level' your work!

12:15-1:15: Lunch.

Be sure to have something to eat and try to get some fresh air if possible.

1:15-1:30: Quiet Reading.

Like we do in class with our Class Book, take a moment to do some quiet reading to yourself.

1:30-3:00: Enquiry-Focused Activity - Music.

Listen to Holst's Planets.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Isic2Z2e2xs

Listen to Mars: The Bringer of War.

Answer the questions below into your Enquiry book.

  • Which musical instruments can you hear?
  • How does the music make you feel?
  • Does it remind you of any other music? Maybe a film score?

Listen to it again.

  • Draw a picture to show what you think is happening as you listen to the music. Feel free to listen to the rest of the work.

Have a great day and we will be back online tomorrow with Thursday's tasks :-).
