Good morning Reception!

Wow that's the last time you will hear your teachers say that!  We can't believe it is your last day of Reception already, it feels like yesterday when we were visiting you at your homes and welcoming you through those big blue gates for the first time.

We are so proud of everything you have achieved this year.  You really are amazing.

We can't wait to see you all around school again in September.

Have the most wonderful summer!

Stay safe,

Miss Golding, Miss Marchant, Mrs Cunningham & Ms Woolford

Transition

Last week Miss Wilson and Miss Jeffery provided you with lots of activities so that you can get to know each other. In the additional resources at the bottom of the page we have provided a social story about the transition into Year 1. Please share this with your child as it will hopefully answer some of the questions they may have. It is good to go over this throughout the summer to help prepare for September.

Before 0900- Wake Up and Get Dressed

Get ready for the day with independence; have a wash, dress yourself, eat breakfast and brush your teeth.

0900-0930 - Reading

This week we are looking back over our time in Reception. We want you to revisit some of your favourite stories that your teachers have shared with you on Tapestry during lockdown. This may be one of the stories from this term or before then. After watching the story, talk about why it is one of your favourites and discuss your ideas. Alternatively you could log onto Oxford Owl and read a ditty story yourself.

0930-1000- Writing Challenge

To warm up, start with some Handwriting - you could rewatch one of Mrs Cunningham's videos on Tapestry.

Log on to Tapestry and have a look at everyone’s favourite memories of Year R. Do you remember doing this too?

Your extra challenge for today is to write a card to one of your Year R friends. You could draw a picture of the two of you playing together on the front and then write them a special message inside. Don’t forget to write who it is from and see if you can post it to them.

1000-1030- Home Learning Challenge (to continue after Break Time until 1130)

Choose a challenge!  We now have 4 Reception Home Learning Challenge Grids to choose from. :-)

1030-1100 Break Time

Have one healthy snack: a banana, apple, orange etc.  with a glass of milk or water.  Take some time to relax, maybe you could listen to another story online.

1100 - 1130- Home Learning Challenge

Continue your Home Learning Challenge that you started – don’t forget to try and upload it to Tapestry so that we can see it!

1130 - 1200 – Maths Challenge

Starter: Warm up by counting to 20, forwards and backwards.  How have you been doing with your Number of the Day Challenges?  If there are still some numbers that you find tricky, continue to look at a different number each day.  Practise being able to recognise your numbers to 20, in and out of order.

This week is going to be a little bit different for Maths.  We have spent another full term learning at home so we are going to take this time to review the things that we have learnt.  There are three Maths Challenge Grids all pitched at different levels:

Mild (below expected (1)), Medium (expected level (2)) and Hot (above expected (3)).

We would like you to choose one Maths Challenge to complete each day based on your child’s learning needs and current understanding.  We will complete a challenge on the grid each day right up until the last day of term - Wednesday 22nd July.  Choose your challenges from the most appropriate level for your child.

1200 - 1300 - Lunchtime

1300- 1330 - Phonics

Open Tapestry and watch the video ‘Set 1 Speed Sounds.’  Say the sounds along with Miss Bailey; can you remember them all and say them before she does?  You should watch and say your Speed Sounds every single day.

Your challenge for today is to see how many green words you can read.  You will find them in the 'Additional Resources' section.  Can you spot our new special friend Set 2 sounds in the words?

As an extra challenge, give yourself a little spelling test and see if you can write some of the words – you could use the sound mat to help you.  Maybe you would like to write a sentence with the words in too – don’t forget your lead ins.

1330 Onwards- Plan, Do, Review

Encourage your child to make a Learning Choice from a list of options (change these to suit) but they should include selecting from:

  • Indoor exercise (Cosmic Yoga - found on YouTube or GoNoodle);

  • Go for an afternoon walk;

  • A Home Learning Challenge;

  • A Forest School Challenge;

  • Be creative (craft, painting, playdough, baking);

  • Exercise (ride your bike, go for a run, play football/rugby);

  • Quiet activity (independent reading, puzzle, colouring, board game);

  • Screen time on a learning wesbite/app (links can be found on the ‘Useful Websites to Support Home Learning’ section of our COVID-19 Yr R Page).

When your child has made their choice, discuss: Where are they going to do their Learning Choice?  What exactly are they going to be doing?  How are they going to do it?

When they have completed their Learning Choice, Review it.  What went well?  How could they improve it?  You could revisit it tomorrow afternoon to improve.  What have they learnt?

When you have finished, enjoy some free time to yourself or to spend with your family.

We hope you have had a lovely day and we can’t wait to see your uploads on Tapestry.
