Wednesday, 22nd April 2020 (World Earth Day!)

Hello Year 5! *virtual hand shake - with a smiley face!*

Today is WORLD EARTH DAY!

Listed below is our suggested timetable for the day. Remember, you can adapt and edit the times you do these tasks to suit the timetable you have at home :-).

All tasks for today should hopefully be spent away from the computer as much as possible and enjoying the World Earth Day tasks! :-)

 Word of the Day:  Sustainable

Like you would in school, look up what this word means, what word group it belongs to, place it accurately into a sentence and work out what prefixes/ suffixes could be added (remember this last one doesn't always apply!).

09:00 - 09:30: Reading.

Read your book for 15 mins or more.

09:30 - 10:30: World Earth Day Activity Time!

Spend this time working on one of the World Earth Day activities. We would love to see what you get up to, so we can showcase it in our Year 5 Gallery!

Check the World Earth Day page for the provided activities :-)

10:30 - 10:45: Break.

Have a snack and try to get some fresh air if possible.

10:45 - 11:15: Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar.

Look at the PDF Version of our Grammar Flipchart - Commas Within Sentences.

Look through the slides for Wednesday 22nd April. Consider the questions and then have a go at filling in the missing commas in the paragraph about the Earth and Sun!

11:15 - 12:15: World Earth Day Activity Time!

Continue with the activities you may have started or give another one a go! :-)

12:15 - 1:15: Lunch.

Be sure to have something to eat and try to get some fresh air!

1:15 - 1:30: Quiet Reading.

Like we do in class with our Class Book, take a moment to do some quiet reading to yourself.

1:30 - 3:00: World Earth Day Activity Time!

Continue with the activities you may have started or give another one a go! :-)

How many have you done so far?

Have you managed to get someone else at home involved with you?

Well done everyone! We will continue with a new philosophical question on Thursday. For now, why don't you spend this time reflecting on what you did today! Maybe think about one small thing you could do from now on, to try & protect our wonderful planet? E.g. Grow some of your own vegetables or walk to places as much as you can... What else could you do?

Yesterday's discussion point:

Could you have a sport where everyone is on the same side?

Mrs. Hudson: I'm not sure you can because a 'sport' is defined as an activity where an individual or team compete against others for entertainment... Even if it's individual, not everybody wants everybody else to win too...

Miss Martin: Could this only happen if you were involved in an 'individual' sport, like running or swimming? But then, I suppose, when you compete, you are doing so against others who may be involved in other clubs or groups, therefore on another 'side'...

Have a great evening, Year 5! We're excited to see what today has involved for you!laugh

Log in on Thursday for some more exciting learning!
