Hello Year 5! *virtual hand shake - silently... like a mime artist!*
Salut tout le monde. Il fait beau aujourd'hui, n'est pas? We hope you are enjoying the last chapters of the Wilderness War. Remember to log on to the Remote Audio Book section and log in with your password. We hope you enjoyed The Caged Bird too. If you have any favourite poems, please share those with us too! 
Word of the Day: Gender
Like you would in school, look up what this word means, what word group it belongs to, place it accurately into a sentence and work out what prefixes/ suffixes could be added (remember this last one doesn't always apply!).
09:00 - 09:30: Reading.
Read your book for 15 mins or to the end of the next chapter.
Read or listen to the Caged Bird again.
- Split your page in half. Write words and phrases to describe the Caged Bird on one half. On the other half, do the same for the Free Bird either from the text or your own thoughts.
09:30 - 10:30: Maths.
We're continuing with Position and Direction!
Warm-Up: Have a go at the coordinates game, as a reminder on how to find them!

Then, work through 'Wednesday 20th May - Maths Task Sheet'. Combining the use of reflection AND coordinates.. take your time!
10:30 - 10:45: Break.
Create your own obstacle course: Could you have sections with all the skills we have been practising, such as: running, jumping, skipping, throwing? Time yourself! Can you get faster?
Compare your time against a friend's or family member.
10:45 - 11:15: Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar.
Spend 15mins on Lexia or Spellzone if you have an account - how great if we could hand out more certificates?!
Look at the Flipchart PDF Grammar - Verbs with Prefixes.
Look through the slides for Wednesday 20th May - Read the given text and the types of words. Take some time to look at what effect each prefix has on each word! Complete the given sentences!
11:15 - 12:15: English.
Imagine the developers came to the Wilderness, while Noah and his friends were playing.
Write a playscript describing the scene, showing what the children and the developers/ builders say to each other.
- How would you describe the scene?
- Would Noah and his friends be at their stations, ready, or caught by surprise?
- What would they say to each other? How would the children and the developers react? How would you show that the children speak differently to the builders/ developers, compared to with each other? Remember to use adverbs in brackets to describe how they are saying things/ what they are doing! Use a dictionary/thesaurus to UP-LEVEL you writing!
- When you have finished writing the scene, try acting it out with a family member or a friend using technology! Did it flow? What else could you add/edit/improve??

Remember: Extend your writing! Try not to rush through it and include grammar in the dialogue to show off what you know and make your writing more complex!
12:15 - 1:15: Lunch.
Be sure to have something to eat and try to get some fresh air!
1:15 - 1:30: Quiet Reading.
Go on to the Wilderness War section of the website. Listen to Chapter 26, 27 and 28 as Mrs. Hudson and Miss. Martin reads it.

1:30 - 3:00: Forest School Activities!
- Keep a cloud diary! Watch the video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QAqeFSa60TE. Use the Cloud Spotter Sheet in the learning resources.
- Grow something from a seed or the end of a vegetable! Cut off the top of a carrot or leek. Put it in a jam jar of water on the window sill. Alternatively, grow something from a seed - a tomato, cucumber, apple or lemon? Get some soil from outside. Put this in a yoghurt pot or similar. Put holes in the bottom for drainage and put on a saucer. Place your seed inside and water. Keep the soil moist, but don't over water! Be patient and see what happens.
- Create your own mini Forest School! Get some twigs, leaves, bits of bark etc. to create a space for some bugs. Egg boxes are great too! Use some water. See what happens every week. Lift your twigs, bark etc and see, have you encouraged more creatures?
- Watch the Wildlife videos on the Wilderness Watch page! Could you make your own video or wildlife photo? Maybe take a picture on a walk, in your garden or out of your window!
- Look at Mrs. Holmes Forest School activities on the main page.
Well done everyone! We are continuing with the philosophical questions! They are just some funny little thoughts to get your brains working and everyone interacting (save your points for lunchtime or dinnertime or FaceTime - get your family involved!).

Does it matter if you are a boy or a girl? Do your parents agree? Why or why not?
Yesterday's question: Does the colour of a person's skin make a difference?
Mrs. Hudson: Our skins are lots of different shades of peach, beige, brown. Put your arm against someone else in your family. Is it exactly the same colour? No. Do you feel any different towards your mum, dad, brother, sister, friend because their skin is a different shade. I am sure you don't. We are all different, which makes life more interesting. It's how we behave towards each other that is important.
Miss. Martin: We all look different, that's what makes us unique! Including our hair colour, eye colour, the clothes we wear, what our voices sound like... Our skin colours vary all over the world, but that shouldn't make us feel differently. We're all human after all and it's what you do/ say that truly counts and makes the difference!
