Good Citizen Week
This week, Sussex Road is going to have a Good Citizen Week. We have seen so many acts of kindness during lockdown in the news, on television and across social media.. Clapping for the NHS and carers, donating and fund raising are just some examples that come to mind. We are sure you can think of many more.
Your challenge is to show kindness each day, either to family members in your household or towards people in the wider community. We have included some ideas to get you started: say hello to your neighbour, write a letter, make a drink for your family. However, kindness comes in many ways so please feel free to think of your own. Being kind is guaranteed to make you smile and will cheer everyone up. As a good citizen, just make sure you maintain a social distance of 2 metres.
Philosophical question:
Today's question: Is it possible to think of nothing?
Word of the day: mission
Challenges:
Find out what it means and write the definition in your own words!
What is its word class?
How many syllables does it have (clap each syllable to help you)?
Make a list of synonyms and antonyms
Can you use it in an interesting sentence?
Are you able to use it, appropriately, when you are speaking or in any of your writing opportunities?

English - Planning your letter!
You will see in the documents below some examples of how you may choose to plan each of your paragraphs/structure it in your book. To help you further, I have given you some examples of what you may choose for each of your arguments. You do not have to use my suggestions, however I strongly encourage you to read through so you understand how I have structured my paragraphs.
For every argument you make, you must have evidence/reason to back it up!
Let’s go into a little more depth about the first reason...
Argument 1
So, my top choice is about his toothache. We know from the story that Mr. Erstwhile pulled out the wrong tooth, but Alfie never mentioned that as it was such an ordeal to get the other tooth out!
What reasons do I have to support this argument? I need to think about what would happen if he didn’t go to the dentist!
Toothache could only get worse
Toothache could spread to more teeth
It could be an infection which could then get into the blood stream
Might not be able to eat because of the pain of the ache
If he goes to the dentist, they might be able to do something to save the tooth
Argument 2
My next choice is about his tooth decay. We know he likes fizzy drinks and sugary foods. From the egg shell experiment we conducted we know the impact that those types of foods can have!
Reasons to support this argument:
It can cause holes in the teeth (dental caries)
If left it can cause gum disease.
Dental abscesses can form at the end of the teeth or in the gums
All teeth might fall out and be left toothless
Dentist will be able to give special toothpaste (what does it need in it?)
Reverse some of the damage that’s been done
Advise Alfie about the food he eats and the impact it is having on his teeth
Can you use any of the following features in your planning?
Groups of three – when three adjectives or phrases are used together to make them stand out. |
Repetition – words or phrases that are repeated so that they stick in the reader’s mind. |
Superlatives – words that show that something is the best or the most |
Emotive language – when words are used to make the reader reel a certain emotion I.e. sadness |
Exaggeration – when information is given that is over the top, or slightly untrue |
Rhetorical questions – using questions that don’t need an answer to get the reader to think |
