Hello Year 5! *virtual hand shake - with an electric shock!*
Pinch! Punch! First of the month. Happy April Fool's Day! We hope you haven't been caught out too much! Remember you only have until 12 noon to do Pinch! Punch! or play a joke!
Listed below is our suggested timetable for the day. Remember, you can adapt and edit the times you do these tasks to suit the timetable you have at home :-).
Word of the Day: Truncated
Like you would in school, look up what this word means, what word group it belongs to, place it accurately into a sentence and work out what prefixes/ suffixes could be added (remember this last one doesn't always apply!).
09:00 - 09:30: Reading.
Read your book for 15 mins or more.
Using your reading book, think about where the story is set. Draw the setting and mindmap words around it. Use phrases that influenced and helped you decide what to place in your drawing.
Or, if you're reading a non-fiction book, re-design the layout for one of the pages of information.
Would you add more images/ diagrams? Are there enough captions? Would the page heading look more interesting elsewhere?
09:30 - 10:30: Maths.
Well done - we have a tie between both classes on TTRS! Yesterday, 5AH made up the difference & the same number of children logged in, in both classes
Let's start off by warming up in a different way today. Have a go at Daily 10!
https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/daily10 Select 'Level 5' ⇒ 'Multiplication' ⇒ 'Mixed Tables: Up to x12'.
As it's the last day of Term, you are going to complete an Easter-Themed Maths Investigation! There's a Mild Booklet (answers included at the end - no peeking!) and a Spicy/ Hot Booklet (answers separate!).
Useful resources to help you out, have been included at the bottom to help :-) Enjoy!
10:30 - 10:45: Break.
Have a snack and try to get some fresh air if possible.
10:45 - 11:15: Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar.
Look at the words from the 'Word' section yesterday. Choose 3 more from the words you found. Practice these.
11:15 - 12:15: English.
Look at the Week 2 Comprehension: 'The Rumayana'.
Imagine you are Rawana. Write a letter to Hanuman, King of the Monkeys, persuading him to help you capture Sita.
What persuasive techniques do you know of from our previous English work, that you could use?
12:15 - 1:15: Lunch.
Be sure to have something to eat and try to get some fresh air! Use the above link if now is your time to check out Joe Wicks.
1:15 - 1:30: Quiet Reading.
Like we do in class with our Class Book, take a moment to do some quiet reading to yourself.
1:30 - 3:00: Geography - Focused Activity:
Your alien, you created yesterday, is incredibly curious about Planet Earth and wants to know as much as they can!
Create a fact file/ poster about Planet Earth.
Well done everyone! We have decided to add some philosophical discussion points. It might be worth writing these down and discussing with your whole family at dinner or lunch. If you are face timing/ skyping friends and family, why not ask their views too?! They are just some funny little thoughts to get your brains working and everyone interacting.
It will be interesting to hear what you think.
Here we go:
If you dig up buried treasure, is it yours? Do your parents agree? Why or why not?
Yesterday's discussion point:
Mrs. Hudson: Well I tried to argue with my husband and son about preferring to be a giant, as I would be able to reach things on a high shelf etc. They looked at me in disgust, both saying that they would just create a spell to do that. Good point. However, Hamish wasn't keen on the wizard outfit! I told him he could create his own.
Miss Martin: It appears that the whole household are in agreement that being a wizard is the way forward... who wouldn't want to be like Harry Potter?! (I'm still in hope my letter from Hogwarts will arrive... or maybe a request as a teacher?) And, if you so desperately wanted to be a giant, there's a spell for that!
Happy Easter Holidays! We hope you keep up with your reading and your Times Table Rock Stars. Be sure to take time to get fresh air & continue to try something new!
See you next term for some more exciting learning - we miss you Year 5!
