Refresher: what is a fronted adverbial? 

Fronted adverbials are words or phrases at the beginning of a sentence, used to describe the action that follows. A comma is normally used after an adverbial.

Head over to the Year 4 Virtual Library and watch Week 2 Lesson 3 video where I read pages 24 to 31. Listen carefully to the new character and the conversation that is had! 

We have a mermaid!! Although, she isn’t your typical kind of mythical mermaid one would expect.  

Today, I would like you to write a character description for Iris (the mermaid!). To do this, you need to listen carefully to the story as well as infer from the illustrations in the book.

Today there is a little bit of choice with how you choose to present your learning. It doesn’t have to be in the form of a paragraph! Quite often you guys at home are getting far more creative at how you wish to present your learning (which is fab!) but here are some of my suggestions:  

• Mind map – you could write her name in the middle or do a drawing 

• Washout drawing of Iris with a description written on top  

• Acrostic poem (using mermaid or iris)  

• Poster 

• PowerPoint presentation  

• Stop-motion animation  

• Create a 3D model  

RE 

In your own words, share your understanding of what prayer is. Use your learning from last week to help you. This week, we are looking at Salat – a Muslim prayer ritual involving clear movements or prayer positions. Each position represents part of a Muslim’s relationship with Allah.

Look at the pictures. Can you infer how the character is feeling by just looking at their appearance? What clues are there? Look at their faces and bodies to help you. This is called body language. Now read the Lesson Plan.
