Tuesday 7th July

Good Morning :)

Philosophical question:

How can you feel music, but as it is a sound, you hear it too?

Word of the day: predicament

Challenges:

  • Find out what it means and write the definition in your own words!

  •  What is its word class?

  • How many syllables does it have (clap each syllable to help you)?

  •  Make a list of synonyms and antonyms

  •  Can you use it in an interesting sentence?

  • Are you able to use it, appropriately, when you are speaking or in any of your writing opportunities?

Maths - Today's lesson is called 'Compare and order angles and can be found here.

https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-4/

The worksheet and answers are below.

As an extension you might want to play this game. In the game you are given an angle to draw and you have to see how close you can get to the target size.. We have only looked at angles 0-180 degress so Levels 1 and 2 might be best but you could always experiment with the higher levels.

English

Before you begin today, look back at your table you created yesterday. Refresh yourself of the different reasons you came up with. If you think of anymore, add them on!

Your task today is to plan a persuasive letter to Cliff, as a character of your choice, telling him what you think he should do!

For my example, I have chosen to be the albatross (my favourite character!). You may choose to do a different character and that is fine!

All today is, is planning out your letter. You may choose to build on my example:

Paragraph 1 – Introduction

My notes (Albatross)

General notes:

  • They won’t stop talking which is why I'm writing you this note

  • I miss it being you and me

  • Why are you writing this letter?

  • What is the purpose of the letter?

  • What is your aim?

Paragraph 2 – To stay – become an Island

My notes (Albatross)

General notes:

  • It was peaceful before

  • Don’t you want the quiet?

  • Why keep wasting your time searching for items?

  • People will be able to marvel you as an island

  • Peace and quiet at last

  • What are your character’s reasons for staying and becoming an island?

  • Are you happy with this decision?

  • What would be the benefits to this for Cliff?

  • What would be a negative to this for Cliff?

Paragraph 3 – To leave – go to the Hallowed Shallows

My notes (Albatross)

General notes:

  • You will be embarrassed at the hallowed shallows

  • There’s no chance you will win!

  • Such an effort

  • You’ll only feel disappointment

  • Be an island afterward

  • Why should he leave?

  • What reasons does cliff have?

  • What might happen if he leaves?

  • Are you happy with this decision?

Paragraph 4 - Conclusion – what do you want Cliff to do, a summary!

My notes (Albatross)

General notes:

  • Understand my reasons

  • Ignore what the others say

  • Just become an island

  • Getting your point across

  • What do you want Cliff to do?

  • Sign your letter

Today, we are focusing on WHY the Great Barrier Reef is important.

The Great Barrier Reef is one of many ECOSYSTEMS in the world. An ECOSYSTEM is an area where all LIVING and NON-LIVING things have a ROLE to play in ensuring the AREA and its inhabitants survive and do not become ENDANGERED, or worse, EXTINCT. The ecosystem can be huge (like the Great Barrier Reef) or small (perhaps a pond). To learn more, watch this video. Here are some words you should listen out for:

Why the Great Barrier Reef is important

Listen carefully to the video to find out why the coral reefs are so important to the animals and humans who live there.
