Hello Year 5! *virtual hand shake - with a clapping of hands (like they sometimes do in Zimbabwe and Mozambique)*
We hope you enjoyed looking at the plants yesterday and practising the songs for VE day.
Listed below is our suggested timetable for the day. Remember, you can adapt and edit the times you do these tasks to suit the timetable you have at home :-).
As mentioned before, we have aimed to choose activities which can be completed straight into books without printing - to help save ink - but if you feel printing would be helpful, that is entirely up to you! :-)
Word of the Day: Germination
Like you would in school, look up what this word means, what word group it belongs to, place it accurately into a sentence and work out what prefixes/ suffixes could be added (remember this last one doesn't always apply!).
09:00 - 09:30: Reading.
Read your book for 15 mins or more.
Desert Island Books: Have a careful think about this. Write a list of 3 books which you would take with you if you were going to be marooned on a desert island. Give reasons for why you have chosen to those particular books with you.
09:30 - 10:30: Maths.
Warm-Up: Spend some time on TT Rockstars! https://play.ttrockstars.com/
Which class got the most logins yesterday...?
Today, we're continuing our work on Perimeter and Area.
Work through 'Tuesday 5th May - Maths Teaching Sheets'.
The Chilli Challenge is in the teaching sheet - so be sure to check that out if you need your brain stretching.
10:30 - 10:45: Break.
Have a snack and try to get some fresh air if possible.
It takes the average person about 3.5-4 minutes to run 800m. Can you run for this length of time?
10:45 - 11:15: Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar.
Spend 15mins on Lexia or Spellzone if you have an account - how great if we could hand out more certificates?!
Practice your New Spellings for this week!
Use the 'Visual Spelling Strategies' document to help learn spellings in a new way!
11:15 - 12:15: English.
You are going to create a magazine interview about Noah and his friends. Before you do that, practice your speech marks. Use the Speech Marks Sheet and the Activity.
12:15 - 1:15: Lunch.
Be sure to have something to eat and try to get some fresh air!
1:15 - 1:30: Quiet Reading.
Go on to the Wilderness War section of the website. Follow Chapter 7 and 8 as Miss Martin reads it.
1:30 - 3:00: French and RE-Focused Enquiry:
(Music practice for VE Day: practice the VE songs with Mr. Carradine!).
French: Watch the video of the 'Very Hungry Caterpillar' in French. You know the story in English, but it will remind you of the life-cycle of an insect. It will also remind you of French numbers.

Practice your French adjectives and you knowledge of animals in French - have a go at the 'Vrai ou Faux'.
RE: Exploring the Prophet Muhammad.
Work through 'RE - Lesson 3 - Task Sheet'. Read through the 2 stories, The Crying Camel and the Woman at the Gates of Mecca (GO TO PAGE 19!)
Well done everyone! We are continuing with the philosophical questions! They are just some funny little thoughts to get your brains working and everyone interacting (save your points for lunchtime or dinnertime or FaceTime - get your family involved!).
It will be interesting to hear what you think! :)
Here we go:
What is love? Do your parents agree? Why or why not?
Yesterday's question:
Should we treat animals the same way as humans?
Mrs. Hudson: I do think we should create animals with respect. However, Humphrey isn't treated exactly the same way as I treat Hamish. He has different food and isn't allowed to sleep on our beds at night, only because he would wake us up, when he pops out to see what's going on at night! As for slugs, the story continues, as they have now eaten my kale, so I have not been very respectful to them.
Miss. Martin: I strongly believe we should show animals the same respect that we show humans (in fact, I find it really upsetting when I see people not doing this). But, we obviously understand that the best way to treat animals will be different depending on the animal...
Have a great evening, Year 5! We look forward to seeing any ideas or work that you produced from today!
Log in on Wednesday for some more exciting learning!
