French
This term, you are going to be learning the names of different animals and some descriptive words and phrases linked to animals.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k2RPKMJmSp0
Play the music Le Carnaval des Animaux by Camille Saint-Saens. Saint-Saens was a French composer who was
born in Paris in 1835. This piece of music is very famous and is made up of 14 movements (different sections of music), each one representing a different animal. What animals do you think of while you listen to the music? C'est fantastique? C'est nul?
Look at the 'Additional Flashcards' section of the Core Language resources (near the bottom). Are there any French animal names you already recognise? Read the words carefully and focus on pronunciation. YouTube has some excellent tutorials so you are likely to find native French speakers providing animal names with correct pronunciation to help you.
Charades d'animaux (Animal Charades) - agree a mime/action for each animal. Person A calls out a French animal name and Person B mimes. Swap. If you want, take freeze frame pictures and add them to your Home Learning Book with French animal name labels.
Hangman - Person A writes the first letter of each animal word on a piece of paper. Person B has to guess the rest of the letters OR say the animal name in French with correct pronunciation.
Throughout this unit, use your Core Language resource OFTEN. These are key words and phrases you are aiming to learn, say and understand over the course of the term.
