Hello Year 5! *virtual marshmallow hug*
We hope you are all okay! We have noticed lots of birds in our gardens and in the trees around. Have a look out of your window. Can you name three different birds? They are very busy at the moment! Why do you think that is?
Listed below is our suggested timetable for the day. Remember, you can adapt and edit the times you do these tasks to suit the timetable you have at home :-).
Word of the Day: Abrasion
Like you would in school, look up what this word means, what word group it belongs to, place it accurately into a sentence and work out what prefixes/ suffixes could be added (remember this last one doesn't always apply!).
09:00 - 09:30: Reading.
Read your book for 15 mins or more.
Imagine an alien comes to your house and wants to find out about the book you are reading.
Make sure that you are not interrupting them if they are working. Maybe wait until later or lunchtime, when they have time to enjoy your work.
09:30 - 10:30: Maths.
Start off by warming your brains up with some TimesTable Rockstars! Let's see which class gets the highest number of logins... 5AM won yesterday with just 1 extra login compared to 5AH! Can 5AH beat them today?!
Today we're going to be recapping our fluency in multiplication (oh Year 5, we can hear the cheers and applauses' from our kitchens!!) Specifically when multiplying a multi-digit number, by a 2-digit number!
You choose which formal method (either GRID METHOD or LONG MULTIPLICATION).
Look at the videos below to help you recap - go with what you're confident with!
400 x 30 = 12000
Choose a sheet to work through & then calculate about 6 questions minimum (you decide whether to keep going depending on confidence). Mild (2 digit by 2 digit), Spicy (3 digit by 2 digit) and Hot (4 digit by 2 digit). There's also a challenge if you want it - it gets harder as you go down the sheets.
10:30 - 10:45: Break.
Have a snack and try to get some fresh air if possible. Don't forget the Joe Wicks workout videos as an alternative!
10:45 - 11:15: Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar.
Complete the Word section of the Week 2 Comprehension 'The Rumayana' from your Paper Pack.
11:15 - 12:15: English.
Using the Week 2 Comprehension: 'The Rumayana,' imagine you are Rama or Sita.
Retell the story from their perspective.
Remember to say how they felt, use fronted adverbials (the list has been added to the learning resources) to start your paragraphs and a variety of simple and complex sentences, including personification, alliteration, metaphors and similes.
12:15 - 1:15: Lunch.
Be sure to have something to eat and try to get some fresh air! Use the above link if now is your time to check out Joe Wicks.
1:15 - 1:30: Quiet Reading.
Like we do in class with our Class Book, take a moment to do some quiet reading to yourself.
1:30 - 3:00: Art/ DT Focused Activity:
Create your own alien!
You could draw, paint, use plasticine or junk/recycled materials. It’s up to you.
Create labels (to stick on it) or write a paragraph or two about your extra-terrestrial being.
Well done everyone! We are continuing with our philosophical discussion points. It might be worth writing these down and discussing with your whole family at dinner or lunch. If you are face timing/ skyping friends and family, why not ask their views too?! They are just some funny little thoughts to get your brains working and everyone interacting.
It will be interesting to hear what you think.
Here we go:
Would you rather be a giant or a wizard? Do your parents, siblings or friends agree? Why or why not?
Enjoy your discussions - we'll be doing the same with our families at home! We'll upload what points were made in our homes tomorrow...
