Tuesday 2nd March 2021

Welcome to week 2 of Term 4 Remote Learning!

Are you enjoying the first few days of Spring and really getting stuck in to a good book? Have you listened to any of the extracts the teachers have put on Tapestry to give you a taster of some cracking reads? If you fancy reading any of these stories, please let us know when we all get back to school, as we are sure we can get you a copy of them.

Did you find any information about the Egyptians surprising? I am sure today's History lesson, with the Awful Egyptian video will give you food for thought. We always love it when you take your learning further, so use this time to research what ever area of Egyptian life you wish too.

Keep uploading your work on Tapestry. We love to see it!!

09:00 - 09:45: Class Daily Zoom Session!

It's been lovely to have so many of you join us for the calls so far. Make sure you have a paper and pen ready for the session, to make notes of key learning points and to be able to join in with the tasks :-).

Word of the Day:  Archaeologist

Look up what the word means, what word group it belongs to and place it accurately into a sentence.

09:45 - 10:30   Mathematics.

Step 5: Improper Fractions to Mixed Numbers

This week we will be starting our new mathematical topic of Fractions.

Work through the sheet Tuesday 2nd March – Maths Task.

It is really important to watch the White Rose video on the link – this will help with your new learning!

10:30 - 10:45   BREAK!

Get outside and enjoy the soon to be Spring air if it is appropriate and safe to do so.

Tennis: Practice your racket skills. You need a ball and a racket (this doesn’t have to be a tennis racket, it could be a table tennis bat or even a large spoon. You could also use a rolled-up ball of scrap paper as a ball). How many times can you hit the ball? Keep a record. What is your best score?

10:45 - 11:00   SPaG

Practise your new spellings for the week. Can you learn them in a new way?

Look at your New Spellings sheet!

Use the ‘Visual Spelling Strategies’ document to help learn spellings in a new way!

11:15 - 12:15   English/Writing.

Farming in Ancient Egypt

Read the Farming in Ancient Egypt section.

Answer the text, sentence and word section. This will help you with your research in to Egyptian Daily life.

12:15 - 12:30   Class/Own Book.

Like we would in class with our class book, spend some time quiet reading or listening to the class book, The Time Travelling Cat. The teachers have uploaded videos of themselves reading different chapters on Tapestry, so be sure to check :-).

12:30 - 1:30   LUNCH!

1:30 - 2:00   Reading for Pleasure!

Check out Tapestry for a range of different books being read by some of the teachers. They are reading you a snippet of their favourite children's books. Settle down and listen in... Maybe you'll hear something you want to read further!

Follow the link: https://library.thenational.academy/get-to-know-cookie-and-konnie-huq/

  • Scroll down and see whether you think The Girl Who Stole an Elephant, by Nirzana Farook. would be a book for you.

2 - 3:20pm  History Focus:

Researching Egyptian Daily Life:

Choose two different areas of daily life in Ancient Egypt:

  • Jewellery
  • Clothes
  • Homes
  • Food
  • Writing
  • Games.

(We will be covering other areas later in the term!).

If you have books on Ancient Egypt, use these! If not, the website below will help:

  • Watch the Awful Egyptians: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T7WhIybg_Qo

Make notes on 2 of the areas.  If you want to create some more pages on Egyptian life, then please do :-).

Philosophical Question to finish the day!

Yesterday's Q:  Which book character would you most like to be and why?

Miss Martin: I think it would have to be someone from Harry Potter.... The idea of being able to do magic makes me feel all giddy inside. And it would either be Luna Lovegood (quirky and in her own world, but sees the positives in situations) or Hermione Granger (her ability to remember information and pick up new spells is staggering...)! I'm still waiting on my admission letter to Hogwarts (15 years later....) I think it might have become lost in the post cool

Miss Chapman: I would like to be Mary from the secret garden... I remember being read this story when I was younger in the South of France by my Mama. I used to go to bed dreaming of a Secret Garden, becoming friends with a bird and being so in awe for my surroundings.  Having said that ... being Nevil Longbottom from Harry Potter would be a good option too .. so resilient! From the guy we meet in the first (getting his self stuck on a chandelier by his undies) to the last book (standing up to .. you know who..) Decisions.. decisions.. decisions..

Mrs Hudson:  When I was little I had a Secret Seven Club. We made badges and met underneath our outdoor oil tank- how exciting! I loved the idea of hiding and solving mysteries, so another character I wouldlike to be is from the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Imagine hiding in a wardrobe that led you to another land! Amazing!

Today's Q:  If you could be teleported into any book setting (Hogwarts, Narnia) what would it be and why would you like to go there?

Have a great evening and join us tomorrow for some more exciting learning :)
