Science Fact Check. After yesterday’s Science Walk, did you list these 5 requirements of a plant to live and grow?
Air
Light
Water
Nutrients from soil
Room to grow
Have you started growing something at home over the holiday? If so, make sure you give it all 5 of these things to help it live and grow. We would welcome photos for the Year 3 gallery of you and your plants now and as they grow. 😊 Might we even see a photo of some of them on a dinner plate eventually? That would be amazing. It could be as a vegetable—or maybe as a Master Chef (non-edible) garnish!
Today you are going to do 2 dissections.
1. To investigate the way in which water is transported in plants (before lunch).
2. To find the parts of a flower (after lunch).
For the 1st dissection, open the document ‘Water transportation in plants’. Dissect your dandelion to find the xylem. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ntp0l5JRNZM

Science Walk and Dissection of a Flower
Take a walk to find a flower with an obvious stamen and pistil in the flower. The larger the flower the easier it will be to see the different parts.
Then open and complete ‘Activity Sheet Fower Dissection Mat’ and ‘Pollination process’. If you can’t find a flower, cut and paste from the ‘Paper Flower for Dissection.pdf’.
