Hello Year 5 or 'Dia Dhuit' (dee-ah gwit) as they say in Irish - Gaelic !
We hope you're enjoying the activities that we have set for these final 3 days! Did you manage to find the culprit in the Maths Investigation yesterday? I imagine you are all master of using relative clauses as well. It was lovely to hear about what some of you would do if you were pharaoh for the day.... have statues made of yourselves around the city, watch the mummification of a body, have a boat take up you up the Nile (seeing the hippos and crocodiles as you go!). We hope you enjoyed learning about the Ancient Egyptian civilisation!
We've also attached the transition booklets. These go through what September will look like and will give you a chance to talk through any thoughts you may have about next year!
Word of the Day: Cataract
Look up what the word means, what word group it belongs to, place it accurately into a sentence and work out what prefixes/ suffixes could be added (remember this last one doesn't always count!).
09:00 - 09:30: Reading.
Read for 15mins or to the end of the next chapter in your book.
Read the Cataract at Lodore. Look up any new vocabulary you come across and make sure you understand it!
09:30 - 10:30: Mathematics.
We have completed all of our topics in Maths for the year - wow, well done you, Year 5!
To warm-up, spend some time on TT Rockstars https://play.ttrockstars.com/auth/school/student/12165
Take a look at the Mathopoly Board Game!
If you would prefer not to print the game, have a go at creating your own mathopoly board using the one down below to give you some guidance. You will need:
Use the original on the website to help you design your own (you will continue with this tomorrow!).
10:30 - 10:45: Break/ Snack/ Exercise.
Sports Day Practice: Plan a sports afternoon for your family! You will need 4-5 activities. This could be skipping, an obstacle course, or beat the goalie! How will you score them? What refreshments will you offer? Will you have a rest station?
Can you create badges or medals for the winners? What about other badges for the mots resilient person or who had the most fun? What about a score board?
10:45 - 11:15: SPaG:
Choose 1-3 spellings from the Year 5/6 spelling list that you find particularly hard or challenging. Using the Visual Spelling Strategies worksheet, create a mini poster on these chosen words to help you remember how to spell them!
11:15 - 12:15: English/Writing. The Diver!
Complete the Text, Sentence and Word sections of The Cataract.
12:15 - 1:15: Lunch/Exercise.
Try to get some fresh air if it is safe and appropriate to do so.
1:15- 1.30: Quiet Reading Time.
We have now finished all our audio reading texts. So please use this time to read your own book or information books about Ancient Egypt.
1:30 - 2:45: Sports Day Afternoon!
Woo! The time has finally come for you to set up your Sports Afternoon!
We hope you have fun getting stuck into the different activities you created for the others at home! Please let us know who the overall winner is!
2:45 - 3:00: Philosophical Question.
Today's Question: Give a positive, a negative and an interesting fact about lockdown.
Spend some time during dinner or at some point in the evening, discussing this with the other people at home! We're sure there will be some interesting responses.
We look forward to hearing about your responses!
Yesterday's Q: Would you rather be a mountain or a river? Why?
Mrs. Hudson: I would rather be a river too, as I could whoosh down the mountains to the sea or ocean, then evaporate and condense as a cloud, so float over a mountain. What fun.
Miss Martin: This is hard... I think I would want to be a river! I'm a huge fan of being near/around/in places with water and some rivers flow for miles and miles! You could see a variety of different environments and places on your journey as a river, from the top of a mountain which may be your source... right down to where you join a sea or ocean.
We look forward to hearing your responses! Log in on Wednesday for our final day of remote learning! Have a lovely evening!
