Morning! We hope you all had a good day yesterday and enjoyed starting our enquiry. There are a few exciting events this week that will lead to some (can you think of a synonym for exciting to go here?) learning.

Today is the Queen's 94th birthday. Did you know that she has two birthdays? We have an activity planned for this afternoon that will take you through her life and you will hopefully discover some more interesting facts about her.

At 2pm today Faber Booktime are hosting Emma Carroll as she talks about Letters from the Lighthouse on YouTube.

8.50am -Word of the Day- pallid 

Challenges:   

- Find out what it means and write the definition in your own words!   
- What is its word class? (Is it a noun, verb, adjective?)   

- How many syllables does it have (clap each syllable to help you)? 

- Can you find any synonyms or antonyms? 

- Can you use it in an interesting sentence?  

Are you able to use it, appropriately, when you are speaking or in any of your writing opportunities?  Does it suit the main character in The Arrival? 

Finally, try to find the root of the word – its origin. 

9am- PE  

If you’ve been doing the Joe Wicks workout over the past few weeks, why not try to create your own workout? Try to use the same 30 minute plan: warm up, a series of exercises with built-in breaks then finishing with a warm-down. Maybe take turns with a sibling to create a work-out then try each other’s!  

9.30am -Independent reading 

After all that activity, relax and sit down somewhere comfortable with a good book and read for thirty minutes. If you have finished a book that you enjoyed, maybe write a book review and send it in for our year group Gallery! 

10am -Comprehension 

Artists’ Gallery  

We hope you enjoyed reading about the three different artists yesterday and that you looked up the meaning of unknown words (what did ‘flattering’ and ‘intimate’ mean?). Now, complete the first two exercises, Fill in the Gap and Matching.

Suffixes and prefixes – a suffix is a group of letters added to the end of a word to change its meaning; a prefix is a group of letters which are added to the beginning of a word to change its meaning. 

Suffixes 

Look at these words: 

geography         geology               biology            autobiography            archaeology 

• Look in a dictionary (or on-line) to find out what these suffixes mean. 

• Find other examples of words using these suffixes. 

1.30pm - Fact finding mission

Today as you know is the Queen’s birthday. To celebrate her pretty eventful life, we would like you to create a fact file detailing at least ten amazing things that she has done throughout her life.  Present your findings to someone in your family. Maybe you could chat to your grandparents? They may have memories about her that you could use. Can you find some old news reel to watch? How has life changed during the 94 years she has been alive? And here is a question you could debate at the dinner table tonight; what do you think she would like for a birthday present?

Can you find some facts about her that you don’t think anyone else will find?

How are you going to present your fact file?

Maybe you could create a poster, a power-point or shock, write one?

2.45pm - RE

Ramadan 

This Thursday is the start of Ramadan. We will be looking at Ramadan in a bit more detail later on in the term but as an introduction we would like to watch the following film and to write a paragraph about what the film shows us.
