1130 - 1215 - English

Listen to/Watch the beginning of Chapter 1: A simple case of tooth ach

WOW! I don’t know about you, but I'm not sure I would want to go to that dentist!

Task 1

Answer the following questions about what you have read:

  1. Who was Mrs. Veal? What did she do to help get Alfie’s tooth out?

  1. How did Alfie loose some of his teeth?

  1. Why were Alfie’s teeth in such a bad condition?

  1. Do you think Mr. Erstwhile should still be a dentist? In your answer refer to the text.

Task 2

Planning the ending of the first chapter! How did they get the tooth out in the end?

What other peculiar things did Mr. Erstwhile try to do? Create a mind map full of different ideas – get creative!!

Here are some of our suggestions:

Toaster thrown down the stairs

Elephant charging the opposite direction

Parrot pulls it out

Attaches floss string to the back of a car

Eat a jawbreaker sweetie

Please do not try these at home.

Once you have created your idea(s) story map out how the tooth came out! Make sure with your story map you are putting it in chronological order and giving it as much detail as possible!

After you have done your story map, read it back through and add key words or phrases around each picture.

Finally, record yourself saying the story. Listen back, how could you improve it? You might choose to record it once or twice more making it better each time!

You will need these recordings for tomorrows English lesson.

NB: In the documents below you will find examples of story maps. There is a template document - this can be recreated into Enquiry books by drawing a line down one side of the page for pictures. There is no requirement or expectation for it to be printed.

1215 - 1315 - Lunch

1315 - Enquiry

Any sensible person (and definitely your dentist) will tell you to look after your teeth. But why? What happens if you don’t? What do your teeth look like when you do? How can you look after your teeth?

We are going to test the effect of different substances on our teeth using eggs! Egg shell has similar properties to enamel so we can use it to make reasonable conclusions. We are then going to write up what we have found.

See documents below for full task.
