Tuesday 19th January 2021

Good morning! Happy Tuesday!

How did the beginning of your week go? Thank you so much for such a great response in uploading your Maths Assessments from yesterday! I wonder how you find your science investigation with different materials in the afternoon. Did you find out something new? Realise more about a material that you didn't already know?

Keep uploading your work on Tapestry. We love to see it.

09:00 - 09:45: Class Daily Zoom Session!

It's been lovely to have so many of you join us for the calls so far. Make sure you have a paper and pen ready for the session, to make notes of key learning points and to be able to join in with the tasks :-).

Word of the Day:  Chemical Reaction

Look up what the word means, what word group it belongs to and place it accurately into a sentence.

09:45 - 10:30   Mathematics.

Step 1: Multiply 2-digits by 1-digit [RECAP LESSON]

Today, we're moving away from measurement and looking back at Multiplication and Division.

Work through Tuesday 19th January - Maths Activity.

It is really important to watch the White Rose video on the link - this will help with your new learning!

10:30 - 10:45   BREAK!

Get outside and enjoy the Winter air.

Skipping in the perfect exercise to get your heart beat racing and to practise your resilience as you try different moves and tricks.

For some basic techniques and skipping ideas.

10:45 - 11:15   SPaG

SPaG – New Spellings!

Practise your new spellings for the week. Can you learn them in a new way?

Remember, try some Lexia/Spellzone too!

11:15 - 12:15   English/Writing.

How could we introduce our amazing potion?

Using the features of a persuasive advert, we are going to create a draft for our introduction to our potion advert. Look at the attached sheet to help you write your own. Use the advert word mat too for sentence starters to help you!

12:15 - 12:30   Class/Own Book.

Like we would in class with our class book, spend some time quiet reading or listening to the class book. The teachers have uploaded videos of themselves reading different chapters on Tapestry, so be sure to check :-).

12:30 - 1:30   LUNCH!

1:30 - 2:00   Reading Activity.

Read the Night Mail by W.H.Auden. This is the second part of the poem. Complete the TEXT section.

Save the rest of the sheet for tomorrow!

2 - 3:00pm   Science

Look around your house. Find different examples of materials:

- glass (an old jam jar)

- wood (a pencil)

- plastic (a pot, bowl or tub)

- metal (an old key or door handle)

- a fabric (a sock).

Today, you are going to look at each of these closely and fill in a chart about them.

When you have finished, have a go at the classification key. Can you make your own too?

Philosophical Question to finish the day!

Yesterday's Q:  Is it worse to fail at something or never attempt to try it in the first place?

Miss Martin: I think it's worse to never give it a go in the first place. Otherwise, I think you will always wonder 'What if....?'.... And have you ever really failed if you give something your best shot? I don't think so! It's hard to think like this when you don't succeed, but try to reframe your mind into thinking 'I just found a way how not to do it!' Mistakes are magic and resilience is key :-).

Miss Chapman:  How do you know if you'll fail? As my mum always says, 'You'll never succeed unless you try.' This motto is something I have passed on and continue to follow as an adult. Mistakes are how we learn and grow as people. Taking the first step can be tricky but the feeling of being resilient outweighs the initial leap.

Mrs. Hudson: One of things that I am always impressed with from Sussex Road pupils is the fact that they rarely give up, showing resilience in all their learning. If they do make a mistake or fail at something, they have another go to improve it. We never know until we try.

Today's Question: If you could choose something to change in the world, what would it be?

Spend some time during dinner or at some point in the evening, discussing this with the other people at home! We're sure there will be some interesting responses :-)
