Grammar, Punctuation & Spelling

A preposition is a word that tells you where or when something is in relation to something else.

Examples of prepositions include words like after, before, on, under, inside and outside.

After walking for miles she rested on a hill.

In this sentence 'after' tells you when she rested and 'on' tells you where she rested.

Tick all the sentences that contain a preposition:

  • The weary traveller walked along the cliff path.
  • After school, Mrs Kempe went to choir.
  • Before we leave, I am going to phone Grandma.
  • You must not speak until the test is finished.

Make a list of the prepositions used.
