Hello Year 5! *virtual hand shake - with some jumping up and down (like the Adamu tribe do in Kenya)
We hope you weren't blown away too badly on your exercise walk yesterday. If you sat in your garden, maybe lots of blossom fell like confetti over you. Look out for the white blossom in the hedgerows. This hawthorn flower, called not surprisingly, May blossom scents the air beautifully.
Listed below is our suggested timetable for the day. Remember, you can adapt and edit the times you do these tasks to suit the timetable you have at home :-).
As mentioned before, we have aimed to choose activities which can be completed straight into books without printing - to help save ink - but if you feel printing would be helpful, that is entirely up to you! :-)
Word of the Day: Development
Like you would in school, look up what this word means, what word group it belongs to, place it accurately into a sentence and work out what prefixes/ suffixes could be added (remember this last one doesn't always apply!).
09:00 - 09:30: Reading.
Read your book for 15 mins or more.
We thought we would give you a different poem to look at every week.
Read the poem: Natural Anthem by Benjamin Zephaniah.
09:30 - 10:30: Maths.
Warm-Up: Complete the Daily 10 Challenge.
Level 5 → Multiplication → Mixed Tables: Up to x12.

Work through 'Tuesday 12th May - Maths Teaching Sheets'.
There is a choice of Mild, Spicy and Hot sheets to work through today - you choose which you want to have a go at :-).
10:30 - 10:45: Break.
Have a snack and try to get some fresh air if possible.
Running: How fast can you run? In your garden or hall, see how many lengths of the space you can run in 5 minutes. Can you do more every day? Keep a log!
10:45 - 11:15: Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar.
Spend 15mins on Lexia or Spellzone if you have an account - how many more certificates can we hand out? Remember to do a little every day!
Practice your New Spellings for this week!
11:15 - 12:15: English.
This week we are building up to writing a discussion text, which puts arguments for and against a particular issue.
12:15 - 1:15: Lunch.
Be sure to have something to eat and try to get some fresh air!
1:15 - 1:30: Quiet Reading.

La Lievre et la tortue!
You'll know this story. How many times do you hear the words: l'escargot, la tortue, rapide, vite et lente?
Use Google Translate or a French dictionary to find the words in English:
RE: Work through 'RE - Lesson 4 Task Sheet.'
Look at the video and write down key notes about Muslim prayer.
Look at the different statements provided. Discuss with somebody at home, which statements are really useful in understanding the importance of Muslim's prayer.
Well done everyone! We are continuing with the philosophical questions! They are just some funny little thoughts to get your brains working and everyone interacting (save your points for lunchtime or dinnertime or FaceTime - get your family involved!). It will be interesting to hear what you think! :)
Here we go:
Can you think yourself happy? Do your parents agree? Why or why not?
Last week's question: Could kindness change the world?
Mrs. Hudson: It certainly could, as people would realise that love instead of hate and unkindness is more powerful. People will feel better about themselves and not feel the need to hurt or harm people or things. I know I am elated when people are kind to me. From a kindly smile or a gesture, like holding the door open for me. They all brighten my day.
Miss. Martin: You never fully realise how one small act of kindness can go a long way! Imagine if everybody tried to complete one small act of kindness could do... and to set off a wave of others doing the same as you! Sometimes, people are so quick to find fault and bring others down, when really we should be trying to see the best and fire others up!
Have a great evening, Year 5! We look forward to seeing any ideas or work that you produced from today!
