Oddity

What does it mean? 

Can you think of synonyms and antonyms? 

What word class does it belong to: adjectives, verbs, nouns or adverbs? 

How many syllables does the word have? 

Can you include it in a sentence? Remember capital letters and punctuation. 

Reading

Fossils 

Read the text all about fossils! The text has been spilt into different subheadings to make it easier to find information. Here you will learn about dinosaurs and how fossils are made. Answer the questions. It might be helpful to underline key words in the questions to remind you of what to look for.

End of Block Assessment 

Take a look at this video which shows you division and multiplication facts in more detail. Make sure you have a piece of paper and a pencil ready to practice your answers.

Before you take the End of Block assessment, there is a worksheet with practice questions on. This focuses on bar models, multiplication (x10, x100), fact families and finding the sum of a number. This sheet will help you when you do the assessment. Take a look at the answers for this practice worksheet once you have completed it to see your achievements and how to solve any incorrect answers. 

Once you have completed the practice questions, have a go at the End of Block Assessment. Read the questions carefully and take your time. You can use the space on the sheet to show your working out or show your working out in your Maths book if you are writing the answers straight into your book.

GPS

Work through the SPaG Activity 2 questions. There are prepositions, subordinate clauses and adverbs amongst other skills. If you have log-in details for Lexia and Spellzone, spend 5 or 10 minutes working through them. 

Writing 

Although we are writing an explanation text this week, we will also be using some features of balanced argument:

advantages and disadvantages of each listening device (sometimes called 'for' and 'against' in balanced arguments)

third person 

a range of subordinating conjunctions

Use what you have learnt so far about the history of music listening to identify the advantages and disadvantages of each listening device. Use the Newsround fact file  from last week to help you. You might also need to infer some advantages and disadvantages using the pictures and imagining having one of these devices in your home. Perhaps you have experience of using iPods/mp3s and smartphones to listen to music. What is good or bad about listening to music in this way? Use the Lesson 2 - Retrieve and record plan, WAGOLL and Newsround fact file to help you (in Learning Resources).

Using your inferences about each device will allow you to improve on your advantages and disadvantages, offering a more personal view of listening. When you have done this, challenge yourself to find as many of the fronted adverbials in the fact file as you can. There a quite a few and they might be very helpful in your own writing at the end of the week.
