Where do you think Oliver’s parents might have gone?  

Are you at all surprised by Oliver’s reaction to the fact that his parents are ‘missing’ or haven’t returned? So, we have ended with Oliver pinning a note.  In your opinion, is a note sufficient enough? If one of you wrote, ‘Back Soon!’ and left it on your teacher's desk we would be worried and have lots of questions!  

Today we would like you imagine you are Oliver... 

Brainstorm thoughts and feelings for each of these stages ready for you to write your message tomorrow! 

• When you realised it had been quite a while since you heard anything   

• Looking out the window and seeing no sign of Mum and Dad ...only the orange inflatable dinghy 

• As you stood on the beach  

• Whilst you were pulling up the orange inflatable dinghy  

• When you saw the remaining island out at sea 

• The moment you decided to head off to the island

We are going to spend the next couple of weeks finishing our learning about animals. Look back at Activity Sheet 18 (your last French learning last term). Look the animal names again. Copy these anagrams into your Home Learning Book. Can you unscramble them? You have some picture clues to help you.

Je suis = I am

Je mange = I eat

Person A: choose an animal in your head and mime it

Person B: Decide what animal your partner is and say, for example,  'Je suis le lion' (I am a lion)

Person A: say 'Je mange la poule'

How would you describe each animal using adjectives? There are two you should remember from Stage 1: grand (big) and petit (small). Look at the adjectives in Column A and Column B.

The endings of adjectives change if they are in the masculine or feminine.  What do you think happens to the masculine adjectives in Column A when they are used with feminine words?  That's right, an 'e' is added to change them into feminine. Use a dictionary and/or the internet to work out the meanings of these adjectives. Lots of them look similar to English words and share similar meanings. The definitions are in the French Resources.  Mime each adjective and say Je suis timide/rapide etc. 

Sorting Activity

Look at the animals from the last week of Term 5. Group the animals according to whether they are fast, slow etc.

In Ping Pong, Player A calls out an animal e.g. le lion and Player B responds with an appropriate adjective e.g. Je suis feroce. Take it in turns.
