Hello Year 5! *virtual hand shake - silently... like a mime artist!*
Salut tout le monde. Est-ce qu'il pleut aujourd'hui? If you kept are keeping a cloud diary for Forest School, you have may struggled to notice any yesterday. We hope you enjoyed your time outside in the glorious sunshine. Have you managed to be a good citizen everyday so far too, completing a kind activity everyday.
Remember to log on to the Remote Audio Book section and log in with your password as we are nearly at the end of the story now!
Word of the Day: Oppression
Like you would in school, look up what this word means, what word group it belongs to, place it accurately into a sentence and work out what prefixes/ suffixes could be added (remember this last one doesn't always apply!).
09:00 - 09:30: Reading.
Read your book for 15 mins or to the end of the next chapter.

Listen to Maya Angelou read her poem The Caged Bird.
Maya Angelous was a famous Black America Activist, fighting against racism and injustice in America. The poem became a metaphor for how black Americans were feeling at the time and also for other people who have suffered oppression.
09:30 - 10:30: Maths.
Today, we're continuing with our Position and Direction topic, but no we're looking at Translation (don't worry, we're not mixing learning French and Maths today - hehe!)
Work through Thursday 20th May - Maths Task Sheet. Don't forget to try out a challenge... stretch yourself! Show off at home, what you show off to us in class!
10:30 - 10:45: Break.
Create your own obstacle course: Could you have sections with all the skills we have been practising, such as: running, jumping, skipping, throwing? Time yourself! Can you get faster?
Compare your time against a friend's or family member.
10:45 - 11:15: Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar.
Spend 15mins on Lexia or Spellzone if you have an account - how great if we could hand out more certificates?!
Look at the Flipchart PDF Grammar - Verbs with Prefixes.
11:15 - 12:15: English.
To round up our work on the Wilderness War work, you are going to create a newspaper report imagining a local reported writing about The Wilderness Gang's protection of the land.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/z2yycdm/articles/z2gk9qt
Today, you are going to plan (just writing key words) your report. You will need:
Use the Writing Mat to help you add that grammar correctly! You need to include at least 3 techniques off that mat!
12:15 - 1:15: Lunch.
Be sure to have something to eat and try to get some fresh air!
1:15 - 1:30: Quiet Reading.
Go on to the Wilderness War section of the website. Listen to Chapter 29, 30 and 31 as Mrs. Hudson and Miss. Martin reads it.
Head on over to the NEW page where the videos are now kept!
Children's Tab (at the top of the Sussex Road page) → Remote Learning Books and Audio.
Provide the login details you were emailed & then find the Year 5 page!
1:30 - 3:00: Geography-Focused Enquiry:
Work through Geography - Lesson 5. We're looking at how the land around Tonbridge is used... looking at a different type of map...
Well done everyone! We are continuing with the philosophical questions! They are just some funny little thoughts to get your brains working and everyone interacting (save your points for lunchtime or dinnertime or FaceTime - get your family involved!).
It will be interesting to hear what you think! :)
Here we go:
What do you wish for most at the moment? Do your parents agree? Why or why not?
Yesterday's question: Does it matter if you are a boy or a girl?
Mrs. Hudson: I think in the past it did. 100 years ago if you were a girl, you wouldn't have been given the opportunities to study or work in a career you wished to. Now, males and females are given the same opportunities, although this is not completely worldwide.
Miss. Martin: We're taking steps towards boys and girls having equal opportunities - it's much more shocking now if boys and girls don't have equal opportunity. However, it wasn't always like this. History shows that many societies were run mostly by the men.
Have a great evening, Year 5! We look forward to seeing any ideas or work that you produced from today!
Log in on Friday for some more exciting learning!
