Hello Year 5 or 'Tere' as they say in Estonia!

We hope you enjoyed listening and reading the poem Ozymandias and enjoyed making a mummy and sarcophagus. I hope you were successful on the interactive game, pulling the brains through the nose! Lovely! We wonder how many of you are excited that football games are finally being played. Will it be different without a crowd in the stadium?...  

 

 

 Word of the Day:  Immortal 

Look up what the word means, what word group it belongs to, place it accurately into a sentence and work out what prefixes/ suffixes could be added (remember this last one doesn't always count!). 

 

09:00 - 09:30: Reading.

Read for 15mins OR read to the end of the next chapter.

  • If you were designing a sculpture to celebrate your life, what would it look like? Draw and label it! 

 

09:30 - 10:30: Mathematics.

Recap Session! Have a go at these questions on Fractions 'White Rose End of Block - Fractions Unit Assessment'. Let's see what you can remember from this unit of learning! yes 

  • Try to complete the task without looking at your previous work... as best as you can! If you're struggling however, take a sneak peek at your books to see what could help you with a question! 
  • Once done, go through the answer sheet and self-mark. 

 

10:30 - 10:45: Break/ Snack/ Exercise. 

Have a snack and try to get some fresh air if possible.

10:45 - 11:15: SPaG. 

Look at the Flipchart PDF Grammar - Sentence Adverbs. 

Look through the slides for Thursday 11th June. Try the various questions to do with adverbs on the first 2 slides. 

  • Work through the Grammar Sheet. 
  • Get someone at home to help you with dictation. 

Remember to have a go at Lexia/ Spellzone! 

 

11:15 - 12:15: English/Writing. The Afterlife!

  • Make notes on what you find out. 
  • Answer the questions below! 
    • What is the Afterlife?
    • Where did the Ancient Egyptians get their instructions on how to move to the afterlife?
    • Name 3 objects the Ancient Egyptians took with them into the Afterlife? 
    • What ceremony was performed by Ka's son? 
    • What tests would Ka have to go through? 
    • What would be the Afterlife that you would wish to have as an Ancient Egyptian?
  • If you finish this activity quickly, start this afternoon's work to create a guidebook to the afterlife of your own book of the dead! 

 

12:15 - 1:15: Lunch/Exercise. 

Try to get some fresh air if it is safe and appropriate to do so.

 

1:15- 1.30: Quiet Reading Time:

Listen to Chapter 15 of the Time Travelling Cat. A mysterious tale that will take you back to Ancient Egypt. Click on our remote audio book page. We will be using this book later on in the term. 

 

1:30 - 2:45: Enquiry: History! 

Write your own guidebook called The Book of the Dead!

This will include all the work we have dine this week. This could be a poster, a cartoon or a book that describes what you will need to do, in order to journey to the Afterlife. 

Remember to add in: 

  • About the funeral procession & ceremony... 
  • Mummification...
  • The 'Opening of the Mouth' ceremony. 
  • The weighing of the heart...
  • Choosing the Afterlife you desire!

2:45 - 3:00: Philosophical Question. 

Today's Question: Who decides what is normal?

 

Spend some time during dinner or at some point in the evening, discussing this with the other people at home! We're sure there will be some interesting responses.
