Hello Year 5 or 'Yo' as they say in Guyana!

How are your letters coming on to your new teachers? What have you told them about - your pets? Hobbies? What you are good at? Have you added any pictures of yourselves? I am sure Mrs. Pullin, Mrs Kempe and Mrs. O'Brien will be really pleased to receive these. It has been great to see the start of your stories. Make sure you add lots of detail, such as adjectives and a variety of sentences, to make your stories really powerful.

Word of the Day:  Dehydration

Look up what the word means, what word group it belongs to, place it accurately into a sentence and work out what prefixes/ suffixes could be added (remember this last one doesn't always count!).

09:00 - 09:30: Reading.

Read for 15mins or to the end of the next chapter in your book.

09:30 - 10:30: Mathematics. Estimating Volume!

Have a go at the warm-up! Work through Thursday 16th July - Maths Work SheetThis time you're going to use cubes to estimate the volumes of different shapes, that aren't cubes and cuboids!

10:30 - 10:45: Break/ Snack/ Exercise.

Sports Day Practice: Plan a sports afternoon for your family! You will need 4-5 activities. This could be skipping, an obstacle course, or beat the goalie! How will you score them? What refreshments will you offer? Will you have a rest station?

10:45 - 11:15: SPaG:

The Missing Emoji's SPaG Problem-Solving Game!

Continue with the investigation booklet from yesterday!

 Remember, try some Lexia/Spellzone too!

11:15 - 12:15: English/Writing.  Writing your Time-Travelling: The Resolution and Ending.

After yesterday's dramatic problem, you need to round your story off, tying up the loose ends! Reflect on how your character's feel about their experience. Has it changed them?

  • Check your writing through when you are finished! Do you need to re-draft any sections? Does it flow and make sense?

  • How can you make this your best piece of writing? Become an author by drafting and re-drafting!
    • Show a variety of sentences - long and short for impact! Use relative AND subordinate clauses.
    • Use different openers, such as adverbs of time or connectives!
    • Show off all the vocabulary you have learnt about Egypt! Add in similes or metaphors. Could you add alliteration or personification?
    • Check through for any missing punctuation, including commas and inverted commas!

12:15 - 1:15: Lunch/Exercise.

Try to get some fresh air if it is safe and appropriate to do so.

1:15- 1.30: Quiet Reading Time.

We have now finished all our audio reading texts. So please use this time to read your own book or information books about Ancient Egypt.

1:30 - 2:45: Enquiry:  Transition Activity! (Part 2).

You have an 'arty' activity to have a go at - another way to express yourself!

Read through the Art Transition Activity to see what creative challenge you have been set.

It would be lovely to send them into school so that Mrs Pullin & Mrs Kempe or Mrs O'Brien can see the wonderful pieces you have created laugh

2:45 - 3:00: Philosophical Question.

Today's Question: Is cheating ever acceptable?

Spend some time during dinner or at some point in the evening, discussing this with the other people at home! We're sure there will be some interesting responses.

We look forward to hearing about your responses!

Yesterday's Q: Give a positive, negative and an interesting fact about football.

Mrs. Hudson: The most positive thing is that lots of you guys love playing it. The negative thing is that it can be divisive, as supporters can get very cross and become violent against other teams. Andy Cole, once of Newcastle United holds the record for the most goals in a 42 game Premier League season along with the Magpies legend Alan Shearer. Cole scored 34 during the 1993/1994 campaign while Shearer scored the same the following year for Blackburn Rovers.

Miss Martin: A positive is that it brings so many people together from all over the world! A negative is that, the passion can sometimes drive people to be argumentative over matches and the outcome of games... An interesting fact... Well, apparently the players run an average of 9km in every game they play... No wonder they need to keep fighting fit!

We look forward to hearing your responses! Log in on Friday for more wonderful learning! Have a great evening.
