Welcome back to the Year R Home Learning Page

We hope that you have all had a fantastic Easter break in the lovely sunshine.  I wonder if anyone still has any Easter Eggs left?!

This term, we will be using Tapestry daily to upload new learning.  This will mostly include the teaching of Set 2 sounds via videos; you will be prompted on the website when you will need to head to Tapestry to view these.  Supporting documents will be found in their usual spot within the daily website uploads.

You may have also noticed a little jiggle around with the layout of our Yr R Home Page.

There is a Term 5 section where we will continue to upload to each day... which I am sure you have found already as you have made it here!

Underneath Term 5  is a section titled 'Challenges.'  Here you will find the new Home Learning Challenges grid (as well as the previous one), red words to learn and green words to read if you are looking for some extra learning.

I have moved any Term 4 Home Learning below that to a section titled 'Term 4' so you are still able to view anything that was previously uploaded if you wish to.

As always, if there are any problems or questions then do let us know via Tapestry or by emailing the school office.

Thank you for your continued support - you are all amazing!

Before 0900- Wake Up and Get Dressed

Get ready for the day with independence; have a wash, dress yourself, eat breakfast and brush your teeth.

0900-0930 - Reading

Chose a book of your choice to read to yourself or share it with someone in your family, discuss it and enjoy it.

You could log on to Tapestry to listen to one of the teachers read a story!  Which Mystery Teacher will be reading your story today?  What did you like about the story?  Why?

You could also watch a CBeebies bedtime story if you would like to, or search Youtube for stories.

Good children’s authors to search for include: Julia Donaldson, Oliver Jeffers, Giles Andreae, Sophy Henn, Morag Hood, Jill Murphy, Emily Gravett, Nick Sharratt.

0930-1000- Maths Challenge

Warm up by counting to 20, forwards and backwards.  You can watch Ms Woolford's video on Tapestry and count along with her!

We are going to spend the next 2 days making our own patterns.

Have a look at the patterns -

What do you notice about them?

What is the same and what is different?

Note: Here, children may describe the yellow, blue pattern or the circle triangle pattern.

Have a look at this pattern -

What is different this time?

Can you make your own pattern using colours and/or shapes?

Note: The patterns should be AB, AAB and ABB patterns.  You could create the start of a pattern and ask children to complete or they can make some for you.

When modelling patterns, it is important that there are at least three full units of repeat – this makes it easier to identify and continue the pattern.

If you had lots of fun building your own pattern, why don’t you have a go at playing this game?

1000-1030- Home Learning Challenge (to continue after Break Time until 1130)

Choose one of the challenges on your Reception Home Learning Challenges grid to complete and, if possible, share with us on Tapestry.

There is a new Home Learning Challenges grid for this term!  During this time, please complete a challenge from either grid.

The new challenges can be found in the 'Additional Resources' section at the bottom of this page or you can find it, along with some other challenges, on our Yr R COVID-19 Home Page.  The document can be found if you scroll down to the blue title 'Challenges' and look for Grid 2 - Home Learning Challengeshttps://sussex-road-community.secure-primarysite.net/year-r-2/

1030-1100 Break Time

Have one healthy snack: a banana, apple, orange etc.  with a glass of milk or water.  Take some time to relax, maybe you could listen to another story online.

1100 - 1130- Home Learning Challenge

Continue your Home Learning Challenge that you started – don’t forget to try and upload it to Tapestry so that we can see it!

1130 - 1200 – Writing Challenge

We are starting a new Topic this term: 'Will you read me a story?'  The Topic will be based on fairy tales, story writing and story telling.

To start our new Topic, make sure you begin by watching today’s Mystery Reader on Tapestry if you haven't already done so.

Did you know the story of Jack and the Beanstalk?  Talk to an adult about the story.  What happens at the beginning/middle/end?  Who are the characters?  Are all the characters good?  Which is your favourite character and why?

To finish, watch Mrs Cunningham's handwriting video  - write the 'm' sound.

1200 - 1300 - Lunchtime

1300- 1330 - Phonics

Open Tapestry and watch the video ‘Set 1 Speed Sounds.’  Say the sounds along with Miss Bailey; can you remember them all and say them before she does?  You should watch and say your Speed Sounds every single day.

Now you have practised your Speed Sounds, have a look at the Phonics document in the ‘Additional Resources’ section at the bottom of the page.

Read the green and red words to begin with, then read the sentences.

As a challenge, see if you can write the words in your best handwriting.  Don’t forget your lead ins!  To challenge yourself, a grown up could read the words to you and see if you can spell them correctly.  Use your Fred fingers to help you spot all the sounds before you start writing!

I wonder if you can read a sentence, hold it in your head, then write it without looking back!  Get your grown up to draw you some scaffold lines to help you if you need it.

After you have completed the sheet below, read a Read Write Inc eBook from the Oxford Owl website.

Try to read a story that is the same colour as the books you took home from school.

Note: You will need to create a login to read a ‘Read Write Inc eBook’ - don’t worry, the logins are completely free!

1330 Onwards- Plan, Do, Review

Encourage your child to make a Learning Choice from a list of options (change these to suit) but they should include selecting from:

  • Indoor exercise (Cosmic Yoga - found on YouTube or GoNoodle);

  • Go for an afternoon walk;

  • A Home Learning Challenge;

  • A Forest School Challenge;

  • Be creative (craft, painting, playdough, baking);

  • Exercise (ride your bike, go for a run, play football/rugby);

  • Quiet activity (puzzle, colouring, board game);

  • Screen time on a learning wesbite/app (links can be found on the ‘Useful Websites to Support Home Learning’ section of our COVID-19 Yr R Page).

When your child has made their choice, discuss: Where are they going to do their Learning Choice?  What exactly are they going to be doing?  How are they going to do it?

When they have completed their Learning Choice, Review it.  What went well?  How could they improve it?  You could revisit it tomorrow afternoon to improve.  What have they learnt?

When you have finished, enjoy some free time to yourself or to spend with your family.

We hope you have had a lovely day and we can’t wait to see your uploads on Tapestry.
