Thursday 16th April 2020

                                                                             Good morning! Welcome back!

We are very excited about the work which we have planned for this term. Our enquiry for the next five weeks is:

What Do You See?

We will be studying famous artists, looking at the world through a photographic lens with tutoring from a professional photographer and, of course, our book for the term which is the wordless, ‘The Arrival’, by Shaun Tan, which we will be starting on Monday.

Also, we will be phoning everyone, once per week, to see how you are getting on. We are very excited about this as it feels like months since we have spoken to you all!

8.50am Word of the Day exuberant

This word sums up how Year 6 teachers are feeling!

Challenges:

- Find out what it means and write the definition in your own words!
- What is its word class? (Is it a noun, verb, adjective?)

- How many syllables does it have (clap each syllable to help you)?

- Can you find any synonyms or antonyms?

- Can you use it in an interesting sentence?

Are you able to use it, appropriately, when you are speaking or in any of your writing opportunities?

Finally, try to find the root of the word – its origin.

9am PE

Welcome back Joe Wicks!

Maybe you have been doing this every day, but if you haven’t, it’s time to put down the last of your chocolate eggs and get stretching…

9.30am Independent reading

Have you made sure that you’ve been reading both fiction and non-fiction over the Easter break? Make sure that you are varying your ‘diet’ of reading!

It’s time to grab your book and settle down for thirty minutes of reading.

Philosophical question

Would an elephant make a good pet? Why do you think that?

10am Comprehension

What about listening to a podcast for something different?

10.15am Maths

Ready for some brain busting challenges? This one could create some heated debate!  Check below for the instructions and resources: we'd love to know, not just your solution, but your reasoning as well!

11am Take a Break

11.20am Spelling

It’s time to look over the Year 5 / 6 spelling words again.

Choose five of the trickiest words – or words that you think you don’t know, but should - write them out and learn them. Use the ‘look, say, cover, write, check’ method to really try and memorise them. Think also about suffixes and prefixes – if you add these, do you know if the root word changes?

11.30am Writing

In the spirit of our theme for this term, ‘What Do You See?’ we have chosen this image to get us going. Based on this picture, choose any two activities which are listed below and write them up in your exercise book.

12.30pm Lunch

Who's eating similarly to when they're in school and who is getting creative in the kitchen?

1.30pm Enquiry - Science

Our Science learning this term focuses on LIGHT, which you should have last spent time on in Year 3.  How much can you remember?

Today we want you to think like a scientist and consider how you can demonstrate that light travels in straight lines.  We've thought of several ways you could do this (look at the attached information sheet) but you might have a better idea.  Use the success criteria on the QCE sheet to guide you (but don't worry about printing it out and sticking it in - unless you really want to).

We've also attached a fact sheet to remind you of some of the language we use when talking scientifically about light.
