English

Head over to the Year 4 Virtual Library and watch Week 2 Lesson 4 video where I read to the end of Chapter 4.

Today is the day (some) of your dreams come true! You are becoming a mermaid/merman for the next two days!!

I would like you to imagine you are Iris and have just bumped into the island, you are lost, can hardly see, have a boy annoying you and not to mention the stupid bird!

Today we are going to write a diary entry as Iris. I would like us to really step into her shoes!

First, recount the story as Iris. What happened to her? In what order? Some of you may find this tricky so I have recorded a new version of the chapter which focuses on Iris.

Once you have listened or made your own notes on the story from Iris’ point of view, start a rough plan for your letter. Here is my plan for my letter. Some of you may choose to use this one and draft your letter which you could then improve upon tomorrow.  The challenge for you is to portray Iris’s attitude on paper! She is sassy, sarcastic and full of frustration!!

Paragraph 1: Introduction

  • Life couldn’t get any worse

  • Eye sight got in trouble once again

  • Shouldn’t have gone to find the optician

Paragraph 2: recounting the day

  • Sat on the rambling eye with a starfish soothing black eye

  • Horrific day

  • Too much of a headache to continue with journey

  • Swimming along merrily and the island appeared!

  • Like a beached whale rubbing sore eye

  • Someone asked if I was his Mum or Dad!

  • The same figure was asking questions like if I had seen any other islands.

  • Was he stupid? If I could, I wouldn’t have a black eye!

  • He stepped closer and we introduced ourselves.

  • The boy was stupid, I had to explain what a Rambling Isle was.

  • He expected me to know everything!

  • Clueless he was.

  • I let my frustration out by slapping the nearest rock to get the attention of...

  • As if Oliver wasn’t annoying enough, a bird then began squawking!  My head hurt.

Paragraph 3: Conclusion

  • Waiting for the boy to get over the shock

  • Peace and quiet at last

Next there isn’t much for me to say today other than complete writing your diary entry as Iris.

I would like to remind you of the things you should be including in your writing. There isn’t anything on here that we haven’t done at school!
