Hello Year 5 or 'Ola' as they say in Portugal.

We hope you had a relaxing, but didn't get too rainy, weekend! It has been fantastic to see your Ancient Egyptian day work. We are glad you had a fun learning day, which will be built upon this week when we look at daily life in Ancient Egyptian times. Just a reminder too, that there will be no work set on Friday, as it is an INSET day. All the staff will be doing some special training. Use this time to research Ancient Egypt further, create a different wall painting or write a secret message in hieroglyphics.

Once again, we love seeing your work, especially that we are now back in school more. We love speaking to you too, but now will catch up with you every other week. Remember though, that you can always contact us through the school office. We will try to get back to you as soon as possible. More importantly, we are missing you all!

Read your book for 15mins or more.

09:30 - 10:30: Mathematics.

This week, we are continuing with our Fractions learning! Today we're looking at... 

Fractions: Add Mixed Numbers! 

Work through 'Monday 8th June - Maths Task Sheet'. 

Afterwards, choose what level of sheet you're going to work through: Mild, Spicy or Hot! 

10:30 - 10:45: Break/ Snack/ Exercise. 

Have a snack and try to get some fresh air if possible. 

Cricket: How accurately can you throw a ball? Using a ball (or rolled up scrap paper) make 3 targets. These could be with tubs, bowls or chalk circles. You could give each target points. So the further away it is, the more points you score! How many points can you score?! 

10:45 - 11:15: SPaG. 

Have a go at 'Escaping the Tomb' task sheet! 

Time to have a go at extending and up-levelling your descriptive vocabulary!   

Remember to have a go at Lexia/ Spellzone! 

11:15 - 12:15: English/Writing.

This week, we will be looking at information texts again. On Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, you will be creating your own mini books. 

Look at the section on Health and Beauty. 

• Complete the 'Text', 'Sentence' and 'Word' sections.  

12:15 - 1:15: Lunch/Exercise. 

Try to get some fresh air if it is safe and appropriate to do so.

1:15- 1.30: Afternoon book-

Listen to Chapter 7 and of the Time Travelling Cat. A mysterious tale that will take you back to Ancient Egypt. Click on our remote audio book page. We will be using this book later on in the term. 

1:30 - 2:45: Enquiry: History-Focus!

Choose two of the following areas to research on Egyptian daily life: 

• Jewellery.
• Clothes. 
• Homes. 
• Food. 
• Writing. 
• Games. 

We will be covering the other areas later in the term.

Spend some time during dinner or at some point in the evening, discussing this with the other people at home! We're sure there will be some interesting responses 

Friday's Question: Is beauty the same for everyone?

Mrs. Hudson: No, I don't think it is, which makes the world far more interesting. For example, some people may think that a certain work of art is stunningly beautiful, whereas someone else may not see that in it at all. 

Miss. Martin: We all have different tastes and opinions and that's what makes us unique! If we all thought all the same things were pretty & 'beautiful' our world would be a very limited and boring place.
