• How many syllables does it have (clap each syllable to help you)? 

•  Make a list of synonyms and antonyms   

•  Can you use it in an interesting sentence?  

• Are you able to use it, appropriately, when you are speaking or in any of your writing opportunities?

Maths 

This week we are reviewing some skills that we first looked at earlier in Year 4. Please note that we are not doing the White Rose from this week but their alternative plans.

We are doing Lesson 1 called 1s, 10s, 100s and 1000s. There is a video and activities as usual.

As always, worksheets and answers that go with these lessons will be in the Maths documents folder.

Today is all about the 

English

Head over to the Year 4 Virtual Library and watch Week 2 Lesson 1 video where I read pages 18 to 23. Listen carefully to the new character and the conversation that is had! 

The albatross makes me chuckle! In my mind I can just imagine him strutting his stuff holding his head up high – the author has done a great job of portraying him! Today I would like you to create your very own comic strip of Oliver and Mr. Culpeper's first encounter!  

What is a comic strip you ask? See the PowerPoint or watch the video uploaded below! 

Once you have refreshed yourself on the features it is time to get planning.  Story map out their first encounter – what are the key parts of it? This will indicate how many boxes you will need for your comic strip.  

After you have done this (and if you have time!) begin your comic strip!  Today start/complete the narration aspect of each box. This is telling the story – don't include any of the speech. Remember to go into the tiniest of details – it maybe you choose to draft this today so that you have it to write up in neat tomorrow.  

Here is my example of narration I might do to help get you started off!   

• After a short while, Oliver reached the shoreline. Clambering up the side of the bank he heaved the boat up on the sheltered shoreside. Oliver gathered his backpack and began walking around the island searching high and low and every nook and cranny.  

• Tripping and falling as he went Oliver continued the search for his parents. To his surprise it only took a minute to walk across to the other side of the island. He paused and looked out at the vast sea ahead of him. A grey cloud loomed in his mind.  

• Oliver began walking back towards his dinghy calling for his parents in a hope they were hiding somewhere he hadn’t spotted.
