Before 0900- Wake Up and Get Dressed
Get ready for the day with independence; have a wash, dress yourself, eat breakfast and brush your teeth.
0900-0930 - Reading
This week our story is called ‘Mad About Minibeasts’ by Giles Andreae & David Wojtowycz. Watch the video on Tapestry of one of your teacher’s reading it for you.
0930-1000- Writing Challenge
To warm up, start with some Handwriting - you could rewatch one of Mrs Cunningham's videos on Tapestry.
This week our story is all about different minibeasts! Make sure you watch our Reading Time video – Mad About Minibeasts, on Tapestry – if you haven’t already.
Your challenge today is to choose your favourite minibeat and describe it. Think about our 5 senses to help you with your describing – sight, hearing, smell, taste and touch.
First, draw a picture of your chosen minibeast and label it with as many describing words as you can think of. Maybe you could do some research to find out about the different parts of its body.
As an extra challenge, can you put any of those describing words into a sentence? Make sure you use your phonics to sound out the words before you write them and don’t forget your lead ins!
Please share your favourite minibeasts with us on Tapestry.
1000-1030- Home Learning Challenge (to continue after Break Time until 1130)
Choose a challenge! We now have 4 Reception Home Learning Challenge Grids to choose from. :-)
1030-1100 Break Time
Have one healthy snack: a banana, apple, orange etc. with a glass of milk or water. Take some time to relax, maybe you could listen to another story online.
1100 - 1130- Home Learning Challenge
Continue your Home Learning Challenge that you started – don’t forget to try and upload it to Tapestry so that we can see it!
1130 - 1200 – Maths Challenge
Warm up by counting to 20, forwards and backwards.
Starter - Number of the Day: 16
Can you complete the Number of the Day poster? You can use your own format if you want to or just do it practically!
Practise writing the number first (in the circle at the top – you could watch Ms Woolford’s number writing video to help you), then draw a pictorial representation of it in ‘the same as’ box. After that, write and draw the number that is one less and one more than our number of the day. Can you spot the numbers on a number line?
This week we are going to be creating a Bug Shop. Today we would like you to start by using some old cans, pots or boxes and label them with different minibeasts. It is up to you which bugs you wish to sell in your shop. However, make sure that you draw the corresponding amount of bugs as is written on your label. We suggest a minimum of 4 different pots to be useful for our number learning this week. If you don’t have any pots at home for labelling you could use the Bug Shop Bug Pots sheet to fill out which can be found in the additional resources.
Next, we would like you to challenge yourself to add some of the bugs together. For example, I may go into my shop and buy some slugs and caterpillars. This number sentence would be 6 + 3 =. You can use different ways of working this out. You could draw out the corresponding bugs under the number sentence and count how many there in total. You could represent them with objects on your tens frame and count the total or you could simply use your careful counting and use the pictures on the pots to count up all the bugs. Record your number sentences. Which two pots add together to make the most bugs? Which two pots add together to make the least bugs? You could even challenge yourself further and add 3 or 4 pots together.
Make sure you keep hold of your pots as we shall be using them all this week.
1200 - 1300 - Lunchtime
1300- 1330 - Phonics
Open Tapestry and watch the video ‘Set 1 Speed Sounds.’ Say the sounds along with Miss Bailey; can you remember them all and say them before she does? You should watch and say your Speed Sounds every single day.
Today we are revisiting – or - shut the door.
Log on to Tapestry to revisit the sound with Miss Golding. Once you have had a warm up, read the green words and then complete the Spelling Activity which can be found in the 'Additional Resources' section.
1330 Onwards- Plan, Do, Review
Encourage your child to make a Learning Choice from a list of options (change these to suit) but they should include selecting from:
Indoor exercise (Cosmic Yoga - found on YouTube or GoNoodle);
Go for an afternoon walk;
A Home Learning Challenge;
A Forest School Challenge;
Be creative (craft, painting, playdough, baking);
Exercise (ride your bike, go for a run, play football/rugby);
Quiet activity (independent reading, puzzle, colouring, board game);
Screen time on a learning wesbite/app (links can be found on the ‘Useful Websites to Support Home Learning’ section of our COVID-19 Yr R Page).
When your child has made their choice, discuss: Where are they going to do their Learning Choice? What exactly are they going to be doing? How are they going to do it?
When they have completed their Learning Choice, Review it. What went well? How could they improve it? You could revisit it tomorrow afternoon to improve. What have they learnt?
When you have finished, enjoy some free time to yourself or to spend with your family.
We hope you have had a lovely day and we can’t wait to see your uploads on Tapestry.
