Hello Year 5! *virtual hand shake - with a clapping of hands (like they sometimes do in Zimbabwe and Mozambique)*
We hope you had a lovely weekend. This week is a short week, as we have a Bank Holiday on Friday, when we are celebrating the end of World War II with the 75th VE Day Celebrations. So on Thursday, we will start to prepare for this. You can cheer up your neighbours by decorating your houses with bunting and flags. There is a VE day section on the main website, which we want you to look at, especially Mr. Carradine's brilliant sing-a-long section. At 9pm on Friday, the whole country will join in a rendition of We'll Meet Again, which will seem even more poignant as we think about the words.
Listed below is our suggested timetable for the day. Remember, you can adapt and edit the times you do these tasks to suit the timetable you have at home :-).
As mentioned before, we have aimed to choose activities which can be completed straight into books without printing - to help save ink - but if you feel printing would be helpful, that is entirely up to you! :-)
Word of the Day: Pollination
Like you would in school, look up what this word means, what word group it belongs to, place it accurately into a sentence and work out what prefixes/ suffixes could be added (remember this last one doesn't always apply!).
09:00 - 09:30: Reading.
Read your book for 15 mins or more.
Complete one of the attached Comprehension Cards (Apricot 3 - Mild and Sapphire 8 - Spicy). Complete the multiple choice questions and then check your answers, using the given sheet.
09:30 - 10:30: Maths.

Need an extra challenge? Come up with as many ways as possible to make a shape that has a perimeter of 54cm!
10:30 - 10:45: Break.
Have a snack and try to get some fresh air if possible.
It takes the average person about 3.5-4 minutes to run 800m. Can you run for this length of time?
10:45 - 11:15: Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar.
Spend 15mins on Lexia or Spellzone if you have an account - how great if we could hand out more certificates?!

TIP: An 'article' may also be recognised as a 'determiner' (words like 'a', 'an' and 'the').
11:15 - 12:15: English.
Imagine you are interviewing Noah and his friends about the Wilderness.
12:15 - 1:15: Lunch.
Be sure to have something to eat and try to get some fresh air!
1:15 - 1:30: Quiet Reading.
Go on to the Wilderness War section of the website. Follow Chapter 6 as Miss Martin reads it.
