Good morning Year 4!
Hope you are all well and enjoyed your weekends!
Philosophical question:
Moving forward we will be sharing with you a daily philosophical question! In many households philosophical questions can cause quite a large discussion - remember to listen to what others think and show our school values particularly respect. These questions have no right or wrong answer, it is your opinion based on what you think/know/believe. When you can today, talk about the following with your family:
Should animals and humans be treated the same?
Reading Challenge:
Last week you guys smashed the challenge we set you! You most certainly found some obscure places to read!
This week it is bingo time but with a reading twist....
in a door way |
on a rug |
on the grass |
by a washing machine |
with a flashlight |
in the wardrobe |
with a pet |
lying on the floor |
in a sleeping bag |
under a blanket |
by a window |
in your pyjamas |
Each day pick 1 of these challenges, by the end of the week 5 should be ticked off meaning BINGO! For every challenge, take a photo ready to send them to your teacher at the end of the week! You can download the free PicCollage app to place all of your pictures in one collage.
Happy bingo-ing :)
Today's challenges...
Word of the day: responsibility
Challenges:
Find out what it means and write the definition in your own words!
What is its word class?
How many syllables does it have (clap each syllable to help you)?
Make a list of synonyms and antonyms
Can you use it in an interesting sentence?
Are you able to use it, appropriately, when you are speaking or in any of your writing opportunities?
Reading
This week, enjoy delving into a book of your choice!
Maths
For the Maths starters this week, we would like you to spend some time on Times Tables Rock Stars or My Maths catching up on any activities that you have not completed.
We will still be doing our White Rose Maths and this week we will be focusing on multiplication and division. https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-4/ is the website, you know the drill!
We have placed some additional learning about multiplication and division in the documents on the main Year 4 page (with all the dates). These are completely optional and only to be attempted if you have time remaining in your Maths session.
The answer to Poppy's problems from Friday was £8.15 left.
Today's problem is from Max P and it is about the cost of travel to London.
My trip to London.
The train ticket costs £10.55
The bus ticket costs £20.87
The underground costs £50.67.
How much would I save by buying the travel card for £46.35?

Today, we are looking at paragraphing! Your instructions and task are below.

Today I would like us to plan our diary entry for Alfie.
First, look at the PowerPoint (PDF) which reminds you how to write a diary entry. I know we have done it before but sometimes it is good to refresh our memory!
Next, recap what poor Alfie had to endure during that horrific assembly! To do this you could:
Look back at your learning from Friday
Check out the story map below
Listen to the chapter again
Now, plan out a diary entry imagining you are Alfie and you were called up by Miss Root! To do this, have a look at the planning templates below to remind you how to plan. Remember, there is no expectation for anything to be printed. I have put an example of how I planned my diary entry below.
Take your time when doing this, if you rush you will find it a bit tricky tomorrow.
What might help some of you is if you record yourself saying your diary entry!

Today, we are concluding all our learning about Teeth. We have learnt lots! There are a variety of different and fun challenges today: matching games, Top Trumps, word searches and even a comic strip story to read. Some of them you can do on your own and others you might want to do with someone else. Thank you to Ben for creating a quiz - I've included it here for you all to enjoy. You might even want to devise a quiz of your own or create your own comic strip.
