Hello Year 5! *virtual foot tap*
We hope you are all okay and have had a good weekend. Are you trying any new skills? How are your handstands coming on? More importantly, we hope you are staying well!
Listed below is our suggested timetable for the day. Remember, you can adapt and edit the times you do these tasks to suit the timetable you have at home :-).
Word of the Day: Urbanisation
Like you would in school, look up what this word means, what word group it belongs to, place it accurately into a sentence and work out what prefixes/ suffixes could be added (remember this last one doesn't always apply!).
09:00 - 09:30: Reading.
Read your book for 15 mins or more.
Afterwards, complete the Reading - Comprehension Task below. You'll find this in the learning resources below. Something a little more upbeat and cheery! :-)
09:30 - 10:30: Maths.
Start off by warming your brains up with some TimesTable Rockstars! Let's see which class gets the highest number of logins...
We're going to continue with some more Short Division, but recapping specifically on remainders and the different ways we can show these (just as written remainders, fractions or decimals!).
Look at the task below: Maths - Differentiated Division with Remainders.
Use the two videos below to help you show the remainders as fractions, and then decimals.
If you do not feel confident enough yet to show remainders as fractions or decimals, please just leave your answers as a 'whole number' remainder. E.g. 46r3.
10:30 - 10:45: Break.
Have a snack and try to get some fresh air if possible. Don't forget the Joe Wicks workout videos as an alternative!
10:45 - 11:15: Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar.
Answer the questions below into your Enquiry book!
11:15 - 12:15: English.
Complete the Week 2 Comprehension: 'The Rumayana'. You will probably know this story already.
Complete the text and sentence level into your books.
12:15 - 1:15: Lunch.
Be sure to have something to eat and try to get some fresh air! Use the above link if now is your time to check out Joe Wicks.
1:15 - 1:30: Quiet Reading.
Like we do in class with our Class Book, take a moment to do some quiet reading to yourself.
1:30 - 3:00: Music/ Writing Focused Activity:

Which one do you like best? Why?
Look at the lyrics too in the learning resources.
Imagine you are an astronaut, whizzing into space.
Write 2-3 diary entries or paragraphs. Use all your great writing skills, especially describing how you feel. Use the lyrics to magpie ideas too. For example: Does your rocket feel like a tin can?
1. Focus on before you leave your home or space station. You have been especially chosen and had to undergo a strenuous training programme. What have you needed to do to prepare?
2. Lift off, flying into space, landing on a planet
3. Returning to Earth and your reflections.
Well done everyone! We have decided to add some philosophical discussion points. It might be worth writing these down and discussing with your whole family at dinner or lunch. If you are face timing/ skyping friends and family, why not ask their views too?! They are just some funny little thoughts to get your brains working and everyone interacting.
It will be interesting to hear what you think.
Here we go:
If children could run a school for grown ups, what would you teach? Do your parents agree? Why or why not?
Enjoy your discussions.
