Hello Year 5! *virtual hand shake - with a nose bump (like they do in Qatar, Yemen, Oman and the United Arab Emirates)*
We hope you had a lovely weekend. Did anyone manage to take part in the Marathon Challenge yesterday? It involved you either doing 26 things - bouncing a ball, twirling a hula hoop- or running, cycling or walking 2.6miles (10 times less than the actual marathon). If you didn't, maybe you could try today, during your break!
Listed below is our suggested timetable for the day. Remember, you can adapt and edit the times you do these tasks to suit the timetable you have at home :-).
As mentioned before, we have aimed to choose activities which can be completed straight into books without printing - to help save ink - but if you feel printing would be helpful, that is entirely up to you! :-)
Word of the Day: dew
Like you would in school, look up what this word means, what word group it belongs to, place it accurately into a sentence and work out what prefixes/ suffixes could be added (remember this last one doesn't always apply!).
09:00 - 09:30: Reading.
Read your book for 15 mins or more.
Complete either one of the attached Comprehension Cards (Sapphire 7 - No Sweat - Spicy Level). Or (Apricot 2 - Harry Houdini - Mild Level).
09:30 - 10:30: Maths.
This week, we are continuing with our work on decimals. Today, we're looking at subtracting decimals that have the same number of decimal places.
Warm-Up: Use the given multiplication & division facts to fill in the missing numbers and complete the calculations (The Maths - Warm-Up Poster is there to help!)
Extra Challenge: Start at 24.5

Home Learning - Year 5 - Summer Term - Week 2 (Lesson 2 - Subtracting decimals with the same...) Start the video from 0.28.

Watch the video and then choose from below, which sheet you would like to have a go at today (depending on how you found it!).
10:30 - 10:45: Break.
Have a snack and try to get some fresh air if possible.
Could you complete the 26 or 2.6 marathon challenge?
10:45 - 11:15: Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar.
Spend 15mins on Lexia or Spellzone if you have an account - how great if we could hand out more certificates?!
Then, have a go at the Vocabulary Ninja activity (SPaG - Vocab Ninja). Out of a selection of sentences, which is the correct one.
11:15 - 12:15: English.
Look at the Front Cover of the Wilderness War by Julia Green, in the learning resources.
Look at the Map of the Wilderness. Imagine your own Wilderness patch! You could use, to inspire you, a space in Forest School, somewhere around the Hayesden lakes or Tonbridge Park (maybe near the river).
12:15 - 1:15: Lunch.
Be sure to have something to eat and try to get some fresh air!
1:15 - 1:30: Quiet Reading.
Go on to 'The Wilderness War' section of the website. Look at Chapter 1 and read along with Miss Martin.
1:30 - 3:00: Science - Focused Enquiry:
Describe the differences in the life cycles of an amphibian.
Well done everyone! We are continuing with the philosophical questions! They are just some funny little thoughts to get your brains working and everyone interacting (save your points for lunchtime or dinnertime or FaceTime - get your family involved!).
It will be interesting to hear what you think! :)
Here we go:
Is a more emotional person, more or less likely to be a good person? Do your parents agree? Why or why not?
Yesterday's question:
If you make a cake, should you be the person who gets the largest slice?
Mrs. Hudson: It depends if you think you have made a delicious cake. If it has gone wrong, you may only want a small slice!
Miss. Martin: I think if you made it, you get first 'dibs' at tasting it! It is your handy-work after all!
Have a great evening, Year 5! We look forward to seeing any ideas or work that you produced from today!
Log in on Tuesday for some more exciting learning!
