We hope you had a good weekend and managed you get some fresh air. This week we have some exciting learning for you to complete, from Science experiments to writing up your own newspaper reports to family fitness.

09:00 - 09:45: Class Daily Zoom Session! 

It's been lovely to have so many of you join us for the calls so far. Make sure you have a paper and pen ready for the session, to make notes of key learning points and to be able to join in with the tasks :-).

Word of the Day:  Disarray 

Look up what the word means, what word group it belongs to and place it accurately into a sentence.

09:45 - 10:30   Mathematics. 

Step 4: Multiply 2-digits (Area Model aka Grid Method)      PART 1. 

Today, we're continuing with our learning on multiplying, by looking at a method called the area model (or otherwise known as the Grid Method). 

Work through Monday 25th January - Maths Task.

It is really important to watch the White Rose video on the link - this will help with your new learning!

Can you create your own mini-fitness programme for outdoors? 

Try star jumps, running on the spot or keepie-uppies? 

10:45 - 11:15   SPaG

SPaG – Vocab Ninja: Conjunction Malfunction!  

Add the correct subordinating conjunction into the sentences in the table. 

Remember, try some Lexia/Spellzone too!  

11:15 - 12:15   English/Writing. 

What would you ask Gordy about the break-in?  

Listen or read Chapter 20 from last week. Use your picture of the Stitser's overturned laboratory, which appears to have been robbed and broken into. 

• Write down 5 questions you would like to ask Gordy about the break-in. 

How would he answer these? Contact your friend and ask them these questions. Write down their answers or make up your own! 

Practise your use of speech marks. For example: 

How did you feel when you heard the soft thump downstairs? 

Gordy replied nervously, "Well, obviously, I felt extremely anxious. I wondered if my mind was playing tricks on me! As you can imagine, my heat was pounding like a drum! All I kept thinking was, what should I do?" 

Remember punctuation "  "  ,  and capital letters to start the speech.

Like we would in class with our class book, spend some time quiet reading or listening to the class book. The teachers have uploaded videos of themselves reading different chapters on Tapestry, so be sure to check :-).  

12:30 - 1:30   LUNCH! 

1:30 - 2:00   Reading Activity. 

This week we are focusing on newspaper reports. Read the article It's Chips for Computer Thief.

Think about the layout of the article and the features. 

Write your own mini article about something that has happened at school! 

2 - 2.30pm    Science  

What happens when you add solids to water?

• Measure out 100ml of water into 5 glasses/mugs/bowls. 
• Number the pots 1 - 5 and get 5 solids (sugar, salt, coffee, flour and something else of your choice).
• To one pot add 1 teaspoon (tsp) of sugar, in pot 2 add a tsp of coffee, pot 3 a tsp of salt, pot 4 add flour and pot 5, a solid of your choice.

What happens when you mix these in water? Draw a diagram with neat, clear labels and write what you did. 

What did you find out? Which substances dissolved?

Philosophical Question to finish the day! 

Yesterday's Q:  Is it more important to be liked or respected?    

Miss Martin: This is hard... I think because there are very few people who I know, that I don't like and respect at the same time. Some people would say it's more important to be respected... especially those who may be in a position with big responsibility and have hard decisions to make, so wont be liked by everybody but may be respected in the choices they make... This is tough! 

Miss Chapman:  To me, respect is a manner in which you conduct your self so it should be shown to all. Some may say, 'you have to earn my respect.' However, in my opinion respect should be given to everyone no matter their position in the world. Liking someone is down to personal preference and how we feel about them. In some ways, being liked is more important as this is rarer than someone showing respect.  On the flipside, respect is common so there must be a reason as to why you aren't respected. If you are respected then surely you are liked? Hmm I would say respect comes before liking as you can't like someone if you don't respect them. So in answer, I say respect as it is the stepping stone! 

Mrs. Hudson: I think both. As often if people respect you, they will like you too. The most important thing is that you treat people as you would hope to be treated, in a kind respectful way. Hopefully then you treat everybody the same, so that you are then liked and respected. 

Today's Question:   Would you rather be a cat or a dog? Why? 

Spend some time during dinner or at some point in the evening, discussing this with the other people at home! We're sure there will be some interesting responses :-)
