We are going to focus on WORD FAMILIES for three lessons. Word families are groups of words that share the same root word. A root word is a basic word with no prefix (in front of the root word) or suffix (after the root word). When we add prefixes or suffixes, we change the meaning and word class of the word. Work through the Word Families – Introduction powerpoint. Can you think of any of your own word families?

In the learning resources, you will find a sheet called, ‘PSHE - I Have The Right Discussion Cards’. Have a look through these specific children’s rights. Think about which rights are the most important for you. Your task is to choose your top 5 rights and write them into your book with an explanation for each right to show why that right is important for you. Don’t forget to use your conjunctions to explain.
An example of an explanation...
1) The most important right for me is, ‘To be loved and respected’ because if people show kindness and care towards me, it will help me to feel more positive about myself and confident. I also believe that if I am loved from a young age, it will teach me to spread kindness to others which will help me when I grow up to become an adult.
Story Time
Listen to 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory'. Today you will be listening to Chapter 1 and 2.
