Good Morning, Year 5!

We hope you have all had wonderful weekends and been able to enjoy the glorious sunshine!

Listed below is our suggested timetable for the day. Remember, you can adapt and edit the times you do these tasks to suit the timetable you have at home :-)

Word of the Day: Archipelago!

Like you would in school, look up what this word means, what word group it belongs to, place it accurately into a sentence and work out what prefixes/ suffixes could be added (remember this last one doesn't always apply).

09:00 - 09:30: Reading.

Please select a task from the 'Reading' section of your Paper Pack.

09:30 - 10:30: Maths.

Please select a challenge from the 'Maths' section of your Paper Pack.

10:30-10:45: Break.

Have a snack and try to get some fresh air if possible. Alternatively, follow the link below to The Body Coach TV, where Joe Wicks is recording great home workouts for children!

Please select a challenge from the 'Writing' section of your Paper Pack.

1:15-1:30: Quiet Reading.

Like we do in class with our Class Book, take a moment to do some quiet reading to yourself.

1:30-2:30: Enquiry-Focused Activity.

  1. Create a rap about the 8 planets in our solar system! Each verse could be focused on a particular planet and some of their key facts/ characteristics. The chorus might focus on the whole solar system altogether!

Take a look at the attachment 'Planets - Key Facts Cards', explore some of the websites below and take a look at some of the songs/ raps others have already made (hopefully these resources will help provide some inspiration!)

      2. Start your Moon diary in your Enquiry Book - you will need to keep this every evening, for 28 days! Be sure to complete a few sentences focusing on the following things:

  • Whether the sky is clear and if you can see the Moon.
  • What shape it is (draw it!)
  • Establish whether it is waxing (the illuminated area of the Moon is increasing) or waning (the illuminated area of the Moon is decreasing). Have a look at the diagram 'Phases of the Moon' to help with this.

Have a great first day and we will be back online tomorrow with Tuesday's tasks :-)!

Outer Space: The Solar System Song by StoryBots | Netflix Jr

Watching this did make us laugh - we hope it makes you giggle at home too!
Short and simple, but an example of what could be created!

The Solar System Song

This video is quite a bit longer but definitely succeeds at including lots of scientific fact within it' verses!
The chorus also gets stuck in your head...
