We are so pleased that you are all enjoying The Ancient Egyptian topic! What other facts did you find out about the pyramids and how they were made? It was also great to hear about how well children did with Friday's Family Maths Challenge - you're working so hard Year 5, keep it up!

We know that lots of you were moved by the story in the Wilderness War and enjoyed researching about the rainforest in our Geography lessons last term! Well, if you have some time & want to keep up that 'eco-warrior' spirit , check out the website below:

Today's book recommendation comes from Erin Richards: 'The Girl who speaks Bear' by Sophie Anderson. 

Erin loved this book! It concerns Yanka, who is a strong, vibrant girl caught between the world she knows and the life she feels drawn to. 'The Girl Who Speaks Bear' is a beautifully woven tale that is heart-warming, full of folklore, wonderful friends and the idea that home and family comes in all shapes and sizes!

 Word of the Day:  Consumer 

Look up what the word means, what word group it belongs to, place it accurately into a sentence and work out what prefixes/ suffixes could be added (remember this last one doesn't always count!). 

09:00 - 09:30: Reading.

Read for 15mins OR read to the end of the next chapter. 

Read the Introduction to Famous Pharaohs sheet and then have a go at the Questions. 

09:30 - 10:30: Mathematics.

Right Year 5, this week we are moving back to some Geometry (Properties of Shape!). We're going to start with looking at how we can Measure with a Protractor! 

This week is also Finance Week! So, our warm-up tasks this week will be focused around money! 

Work through Monday 22nd June - Maths Task Sheet. Estimating angles, based on the information we already know about angles!

10:30 - 10:45: Break/ Snack/ Exercise. 

Have a snack and try to get some fresh air if possible. 

Cricket: Catching!

Now, you have perfected your bowling technique, could you bowl to someone and get them to hit it back to you? Can you catch the ball? 

10:45 - 11:15: SPaG. 

Have a go at the Grammar and Punctuation Challenge Cards! 

This challenge draws on a range of different grammar techniques. You may want to look up some of the terminology if you struggle to remember what particular phrases mean. 

Remember to have a go at Lexia/ Spellzone! 

11:15 - 12:15: English/Writing. What was the sort of Social Structure like in Egyptian Times?

Look at the Social Structure Sheet and attempt to put it in order!  

• Which level would you like to be? Why? 

Look at the 2 pyramids showing the social structure of the Mayans and Ancient Egyptians. 

• What is the same and what is different about the 2 ancient societies? Write down at least 5 points! 

12:15 - 1:15: Lunch/Exercise. 

Try to get some fresh air if it is safe and appropriate to do so.

1:15- 1.30: Quiet Reading Time:

Listen to Chapter 17 of the Time Travelling Cat. A mysterious tale that will take you back to Ancient Egypt. Click on our remote audio book page. We will be using this book later on in the term. 

1:30 - 2:45: Enquiry: History!  Famous Pharaohs!

This is a compilation of Horrible History clips. This made us chuckle!  but as you watch, make notes on 2 of the pharaohs - Hatshepsut, Cleopatra or Ramesses II! 

• Choose 1 of them to create an information page on today! You are experts at this now, but remember: 
  • A catchy title!
  • Subheadings! 
  • Clear paragraphs about their life AND
  • Any other interesting facts!

2:45 - 3:00: Philosophical Question. 

Today's Question: Is it important to save money for a rainy day or should we share it by spending it?  

Spend some time during dinner or at some point in the evening, discussing this with the other people at home! We're sure there will be some interesting responses.

Yesterday's Q: Why is time important?

Mrs. Hudson: As a teacher, time plays a key part of your day, as our day in split into chunks. This way we can cover all the lovely learning you need to do. I think it helps us manage ourselves and our lives. However, isn't wonderful having free- time? Now that's a totally different question.  

Miss Martin: Without time, we wouldn't know when anything had happened... we'd have no record of it! Think of how confusing history would be without the chronology of months and years! I think time is incredibly important... Also, on a day to day basis, time helps me to get anything done and actually have a productive day!
