Welcome to week 1 of Term 4 Remote Learning!

What if I were a Pharaoh for a day?

We hope you had a great half-term! Did you find any new paths to walk, run or scoot along? We hope you took time to notice the signs of Spring- abundant snowdrops and daffodils peeking through the chilly soil. The birds are definitely getting lively as they prepare their nests.

Anyway, very excitingly, our enquiry this term is based on Ancient Egypt! So we would love you to join us, as we invite you to be renowned Egyptologists, searching for clues about this fascinating ancient time.

This week we are looking forward to seeing you enjoying our Egyptian Day on Friday.

To start off term 4 with a smile, here is a cracking Egyptian joke:

What did the Pharaoh say when he saw the pyramid?

Mummy's home!

Keep uploading your work on Tapestry. We love to see it!!

09:00 - 09:45: Class Daily Zoom Session!

It's been lovely to have so many of you join us for the calls so far. Make sure you have a paper and pen ready for the session, to make notes of key learning points and to be able to join in with the tasks :-).

Word of the Day:  Sarcophagus

Look up what the word means, what word group it belongs to and place it accurately into a sentence.

09:45 - 10:30   Mathematics.

Step 1: What is a fraction?

This week we will be starting our new mathematical topic of Fractions.

Work through the sheet Monday 22nd February – Maths Task.

It is really important to watch the White Rose video on the link – this will help with your new learning!

10:30 - 10:45   BREAK!

Get outside and enjoy the soon to be Spring air if it is appropriate and safe to do so.

Tennis: Practice your racket skills. You need a ball and a racket (this doesn’t have to be a tennis racket, it could be a table tennis bat or even a large spoon. You could also use a rolled-up ball of scrap paper as a ball). How many times can you hit the ball? Keep a record. What is your best score?

10:45 - 11:00   SPaG

SPaG Revision Mat!

Look at the sheet. Choose which level of challenge to work through and answer the general SPaG revision questions.

Mark your answers afterwards using the mark sheet.

Remember, try some Lexia/Spellzone too!

11:15 - 12:15   English/Writing.

Egyptian Cinderella:

Listen to the author Shirley Climo read 'Egyptian Cinderella'.

This is a wonderful picture book that will give you a taste of what life was like in Ancient Egypt.

Complete the comprehension sheet for pages 1-4. You will need to pause on the page.

12:15 - 12:30   Class/Own Book.

Like we would in class with our class book, spend some time quiet reading or listening to the class book, The Time Travelling Cat. The teachers have uploaded videos of themselves reading different chapters on Tapestry, so be sure to check :-).

12:30 - 1:30   LUNCH!

1:30 - 2:00   Reading.

Read the attached poem – Mummy! Work through the levelled comprehension questions based on the poem.

2 - 3:20pm  Introducing our Enquiry!

What if I were a Pharoah for a day? Brainstorm any ideas you can think of that answer this question. Over the next term we will be exploring this question thinking about Ancient Egypt.

Where is Egypt?

www.google.com.eg/maps/place/Egypt/@29.6891264,24.5366796,6z/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x14368976c35c36e9:0x2c45a00925c4c444!8m2!3d26.820553!4d30.802498

Complete the sheet. Then find out using this website, Google maps, an atlas or a dictionary to answer these questions:

  1. Which continent is Egypt in?

  2. Which seas or oceans surround it?

  3. What is its capital city?

  4. Which river runs through it? Find at least 5 facts about this river.  What is a delta?

  5. Why was it so important to the Ancient Egyptians?

  6.  Where are the pyramids located?

  7. Where is Luxor, the Valley of the Kings, Alexandria, Karnak and Abul Simbel? Use Google Earth to locate these and add these to the map attached.

  8. What can you find out about these places and monuments?

Philosophical Question to finish the day!

Today's Q:  Would you rather live in Space or underwater? Why?

Have a great evening and join us tomorrow for some more exciting learning :)
