Good morning!
We hope that you all had a good weekend! The weather was kind, so hopefully you were able to get out and get some exercise and are raring to go on this week's learning! As always, pace yourself. Some areas of learning you may spend longer on than others - this is fine. Remember, Year 6 teachers will be speaking with each of you every week, so if there is something that you are confused about PLEASE mention it to us when we speak. We really want your feedback to ensure the lessons are meeting your needs.
Here we go!
8.50am Word of the Day ambiguous
Challenges:
- Find out what it means and write the definition in your own words!
- What is its word class? (Is it a noun, verb, adjective?)
- How many syllables does it have (clap each syllable to help you)?
- Can you find any synonyms or antonyms?
- Can you use it in an interesting sentence?
Are you able to use it, appropriately, when you are speaking or in any of your writing opportunities?
Finally, try to find the root of the word – its origin. Its etymology (history of the word) is interesting!
9am PE
Still finishing the last few Easter Eggs? Maybe try Joe Wicks again! Don’t forget to have some water close at hand.
9.30am Independent reading
Maybe try another book from Audible – don’t forget, they are free to download whilst schools are closed. Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone has over 9 hours to enjoy!
10am Comprehension
Artists’ Gallery
This text (in your original pack) will link closely to our topic for the term – Art! Read the text and look up the meaning of unknown words. Discuss the text with someone to ensure clear understanding.

Add 'able' to these words. Use a dictionary to check your spelling (and the meaning, if you aren't certain!).
accept understand detest laugh change fashion love notice
Then, underline the root word and circle the suffixes to the words - what do you notice about the root words? Do they change?
(Remember, a suffix is the group of letters that are added to the end of a word to change its meaning.)
11.30 - Writing
Today is our first day looking at the book, 'The Arrival', by Shaun Tan. Look at the PDF below to find out what you have to do!
12.30pm - Lunch
1.30pm- Enquiry
We are very excited to introduce the enquiry for this term...
WHAT DO YOU SEE?
This is an art focused enquiry and we will be looking at photography in particular.
If you have a look at the PDF below for the enquiry, it will tell you everything you need to know for this afternoon. There is also a lesson for you to watch with the professional photographer Tom Miles. He is going to be with us for this term and is going to help us navigate the delights of using a camera and producing photographs. We can't wait to see your creations. Have fun year 6.
