1:30-2:30pm Science - Seed Dispersal and The Life Cycle of a Flowering Plants
Activity 1
After a plant has produced a seed, the seed needs to find a way away from the parent plant to start life of its own. This is called seed dispersal. There are 5 main types of seed dispersal:
Seeds caught on the wind
Seeds eaten by animals
Seeds carried away by water
Seeds explode from the parent plant
Seeds catch a lift on an animal
Watch: https://vimeo.com/218127343 and https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p0118vw6
Look at the images on the worksheet ‘Seed dispersal’. Sort the seeds according to which way they are dispersed from the parent plant. You can either print the pages or just make 5 columns in your book and list the types of seeds in each column. If you found any examples of your own over the weekend, sort them as well. Photos welcome! 😊
Activity 2
Now that you know all about the life cycle of flowering plants, complete page 1 of The Life Cycle of a Flowering Plant – cut and paste.
2:30-3:00 Music
Today’s goal is to learn the lyrics to the 3 verses so you can sing it without looking at the words. Look at the lyrics below. There is a lot of repetition. There are some words highlighted to help you remember them.

In the jungle, the mighty jungle
The lion sleeps tonight
In the jungle the quiet jungle
The lion sleeps tonight
Near the village the peaceful village
The lion sleeps tonight
Near the village the quiet village
The lion sleeps tonight
Hush my darling don't fear my darling
The lion sleeps tonight
Hush my darling don't fear my darling
The lion sleeps tonight
