Hello Year 5 or 'Guten Tag' as they say in Germany.

Welcome back to Term 6! The work you have shown us over the past few weeks has been fabulous! We have also enjoyed chatting to you about this and how you are coping with lockdown... Remember, the phone calls are there for you to use in whatever way you need :-)

This term we are really excited about our new topic:

What if I were a pharaoh for a day?

We have lots of exciting learning on Ancient Egypt, which we know many of you are looking forward to. So settle back... and get ready to be transported to about 3100BC, as you all become expert Egyptologists!

In addition, we will be exploring a range of texts including: Egyptian Cinderella, The Time-Travelling Cat and the Egyptian Goddess and The Story of Tutankhamun as well as a range of poems.

As always, we will follow the normal routine that we would cover in school!

 Word of the Day: Sarcophagus

Look up what the word means, what word group it belongs to, place it accurately into a sentence and work out what prefixes/ suffixes could be added (remember this last one doesn't always count!).

09:00 - 09:30: Reading.

Read your book for 15mins or more.

Read the attached poem 'Mummy!'. Work through the levelled Comprehension Questions based on the poem.

09:30 - 10:30: Mathematics.

This is a recap session! Have a go at the questions on Perimeter and Area White Rose End of Block - Perimeter and Area Assessment

Let's see what we can remember from this unit of learning!

  • Try to complete the task without looking at your previous work... as best as you can! If you are struggling, however, take a sneak peek at your books to see what could help you with a question.
  • Once done, go through the answer sheet and self-mark. Where did you make mistakes? Why?

10:30 - 10:45: Break/ Snack/ Exercise.

Have a snack and try to get some fresh air if possible.

Cricket: Practice your batting skills! You need a ball and a bat (this doesn't have to be a cricket bat, it could even be a tennis racket or even a large spoon! The ball could be a rolled up ball of scrap paper...) How many times can you bat the ball? Keep a record! What is your best score?

10:45 - 11:15: SPaG.

Have a go at the SPaG Revision Mat!

  • Choose which level of challenge to work through and answer the general spelling, grammar and punctuation revision questions.
  • Mark your answers afterwards using the answer sheet.

Remember to have a go at Lexia/ Spellzone!

11:15 - 12:15: English/Writing.

Egyptian Cinderella!
