Welcome to Week 5 of Remote learning!

Pinch! Punch! 1st of the Month! Can you believe we are in February already?!

smiley Positive Mental Health Week! yes

This week we have lots of activities planned as we keep positive all the way through Lockdown 3.

Remember though if you do have any worries, to get them out of your head, by chatting to someone or writing them down. If that doesn't work trying doing something different, such as drawing, listening to music, dancing or kicking a ball. Appreciate the little, positive things that happen each day, whether it is trying a new flavour, noticing a different bird in your garden or the signs of bulbs popping up on your walks around Tonbridge.

You are doing so amazingly well with your Home Learning and we are so proud of you.

Moreover, we're so impressed with the quality of work you are achieving - keep it up, Year 5 :-)

Keep uploading your work on Tapestry. We love to see it.

09:00 - 09:45: Class Daily Zoom Session!

It's been lovely to have so many of you join us for the calls so far. Make sure you have a paper and pen ready for the session, to make notes of key learning points and to be able to join in with the tasks :-).

Word of the Day:  Harmony

Look up what the word means, what word group it belongs to and place it accurately into a sentence.

09:45 - 10:30   Mathematics.

Step 7: Multiply 4-digits by 2-digits (continued)

Today, we’re continuing with our learning on multiplying, by looking at 4-digit numbers multiplied by 2-digit numbers.

Work through the Monday 1st February – Maths Activity.

It is really important to watch the White Rose video on the link – this will help with your new learning!

10:30 - 10:45   BREAK!

Get outside and enjoy the Winter air or try relaxing and moving with

Cosmic Yoga: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WIFIfNljYoo

10:45 - 11:15   SPaG

SPaG – Vocab Ninja: Conjunction Malfunction!

Work through the given sheet. Look at the clauses given in the table. Using the word mat, fill in the sentences with the correct coordinating conjunctions.

Remember, try some Lexia/Spellzone too!

11:15 - 12:15   English/Writing.

How would you conclude your newspaper report?

You are becoming experts at writing conclusions now.

Go back over your reading comprehensions and the example we used to think about the feature of a newspaper.

Look carefully at how they summarise what has happened and ask a question about what might happen next.

So today you are going to conclude your article. Look at the sheet attached for ideas.

12:15 - 12:30   Class/Own Book.

Like we would in class with our class book, spend some time quiet reading or listening to the class book. The teachers have uploaded videos of themselves reading different chapters on Tapestry, so be sure to check :-).

12:30 - 1:30   LUNCH!

1:30 - 2:00   Reading Activity.

This week we are focusing on Positive Mental Health activities. Complete the first part of the Mental Health comprehension. Keep the text for tomorrow too.

Use the sheet or make a note in your book, completing the positive thought diary.

How would you separate a bucket of materials scientifically?

We look forward to seeing this on Tapestry!

Philosophical Question to finish the day!

Yesterday's Q:  Should people care more about doing the right thing or doing things right?

Miss Martin: I agree with the other answers too, you have this 'feeling' when you know what you've done isn't right. I think it's also important to mention that doing the right thing, isn't always the easiest thing. Imagine if you accidentally broke a vase... Doing the easy thing might be to blame it one someone else, but doing the right thing would be being honest (yet that seems harder!). We try our hardest to get things right but that doesn't always happen, which is okay to admit!

Miss Chapman:  What is the right thing? What one may think is the right thing may be the opposite to another! So long as you are trying thats what matters. No-one is perfect, you can't get everything right all the time. We all learn from our mistakes whether it is losing a phone or getting an incorrect answer on Ultimate Timestable Challenges! Embrace everything and always try your hardest and think about the outcome like Mrs Hudson says - what is your gut telling you?

Mrs. Hudson: I definitely think people should care about doing the right thing for them. I always think you know when you haven't done the right thing in your tummy. It is then what you do to make it better. Having said that, it also important to do what you are doing as best as you can. You know deep inside if this is the case too.

Today's Question:  What makes you unique?

Spend some time during dinner or at some point in the evening, discussing this with the other people at home! We're sure there will be some interesting responses :-)
