Hello Year 5! *virtual hand shake from a virtually social distance of 2m*
We hope you had a great weekend! Once again, it has been wonderful to see your work. We have one more week until half-term, so this week the whole school is going to have a Good Citizenship Week. This is where we would like you to complete a kind gesture everyday to the people in your household or your wider community (such as neighbours or your family further afield via the internet or post). We have included a list of activities you could do in the learning resources, such as say hello to your neighbour, write a letter, make a drink for your family. However, please feel free to create your own ideas. These are meant to be completed to make to cheer everyone up and of course observing social distancing, which we are sure you are brilliant at now.
Our Words of the Day and the poem, all centre around one of our PSHE topics: Diversity. However, The Caged Bird poem by Maya Angelou can be seen as relevant to our limited freedom in lockdown. See what you think. You may disagree...
Word of the Day: Stereotype
Like you would in school, look up what this word means, what word group it belongs to, place it accurately into a sentence and work out what prefixes/ suffixes could be added (remember this last one doesn't always apply!).
09:00 - 09:30: Reading.
Read your book for 15 mins or more.
Complete the Reading - Rainforest Comprehension! There are 3 different levels, shown by the stars the bottom. Choose which one to have a go at, work through the questions & then marks your answers afterwards!
Those who have Paper Packs, work through the Comprehension Cards! (The PDF files for these were too big for us to upload onto the website today )
09:30 - 10:30: Maths.
This week, we are going to be looking at Position and Direction!
In this session, we're going to look at positions and coordinates in the first quadrant!
Work through 'Monday 18th May - Maths Task Sheet'. We're recapping plotting coordinates on a grid and how to write them!
Don't forget to check the extra challenge if your brain needs further stretching!
10:30 - 10:45: Break.
Create your own obstacle course. Could you have sections with all the skills we have been practising, such as running, jumping, skipping, throwing? Time yourself. Can you get faster? Compare your time against your friend’s or a family member.
10:45 - 11:15: Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar.
Spend 15mins on Lexia or Spellzone if you have an account - how great if we could hand out more certificates? Remember to do a little every day!
Complete the Vocabulary Ninja Activity: Noun Vs. Verb!
11:15 - 12:15: English.
Have a practice: Think about this morning and having breakfast.
12:15 - 1:15: Lunch.
Be sure to have something to eat and try to get some fresh air!
1:15 - 1:30: Quiet Reading.
Go on to the Wilderness War section of the website. Listen to Chapter 20, 21, 22 as Miss Martin and Mrs. Hudson reads.
1:30 - 3:00: Geography- Focused Enquiry: Natural Resources!
Work through the task sheet 'Geography - Lesson 4'. Today you're exploring deforestation and looking at debates surrounding it.
Well done everyone! We are continuing with the philosophical questions! They are just some funny little thoughts to get your brains working and everyone interacting (save your points for lunchtime or dinnertime or FaceTime - get your family involved!).
It will be interesting to hear what you think! :)
Here we go:
What do you miss most at the moment?
Yesterday's question: What makes you, you?
Mrs. Hudson: Definitely your mum and dad make you you. I realise that my children have taken on board many things that we have hoped we have instilled into them and some we hoped we hadn't! Anyway, I certainly hope that I treat everyone the way I would like to be treated, appreciate the world around me and try to stay positive. I think these came from my mum, dad and my grandparents.
Miss. Martin: The experiences that I had growing up & what I learnt from my family when I was younger... But also the hobbies, likes & dislikes which I established along the way! I think my friends influence who I am in a way too... I'm learning things about myself more and more each day... especially in times like now too!
Have a great evening, Year 5! We look forward to seeing any ideas or work that you produced from today!
Log in on Friday for some more exciting learning!
