A Message To Year 6

Before you get started today, we have a video message for you!

Good morning year 6.

We hope you had a wonderful weekend and enjoyed celebrating VE day? Rather a lot of scones, sandwiches and tea was consumed by the year 6 team. Think a bit (ok, rather a lot) of exercise is needed to compensate. Did anyone catch a glimpse of the Red Arrows or the Spitfire? Mrs Kempe thought she did but it turned out to be a bird. It seems a shame to take down the bunting. Do you think it is ok to keep it up a while longer? It looks so cheerful.

PE

Anyone heard of Broom Hockey?  It’s a game that needs a bit of space, a hallway often works if you’re playing one on one.  Set up jumpers for goalposts and take a broom each.  Using a balled-up pair of socks as a ball, first to five (or ten, if you’ve time) goals wins!

9.30am

Independent Reading

Looking for something new to read?  Why not try The Book of Hopes?

It’s a collection of short stories, poems, essays and pictures (each less than 500 words) written by more than 110 children’s writers and illustrators, including Lauren Child, Anthony Horowitz, Greg James and Chris Smith, Michael Morpurgo, Liz Pichon, Axel Scheffler, Francesca Simon and Jacqueline Wilson.

Currently only available online https://literacytrust.org.uk/family-zone/9-12/book-hopes/ it is dedicated to the doctors, nurses, carers, porters, cleaners and everyone currently working in hospitals.

10.15am

Maths

We are looking at simplifying fractions today.

Break

If you haven’t already had a break, take one now – you’ve earned it!

11.20am

Grammar, Punctuation & Spelling

We’re not setting any specific grammar today because we think you’re going to need to spend a bit more time on The Arrival.  However, if you do have time to spare and would like to be doing something, look again at the Year 5 and 6 spelling list and spend some time getting to grips with those you are less confident on.

It’s that time of the week again for another Tom Miles photography challenge.  This time, amongst other things, he’s going to ask you to find someone to peer critique your photography.  Remind them that their comment should be kind, helpful and specific.
