Friday 27th March 2020

We've made it to Friday!  Yay!  Well done to all of you for your efforts this week; we're really proud of you.

8.50am Word of the Day JUMBLE

Find out what it means, its word class and try to use it appropriately today in writing or speaking.

9am PE

Joe Wicks is still going strong for those of you who continue to enjoy his workouts.  If you fancy a change, here's a variation on the game of musical chairs that Mrs Pullin saw online (Battle Ready 360) if you've got the space and enough people in your household to participate:

Set up the chairs as you would usually with a chair for everyone.  Label each chair with an exercise (star jumps, squats, etc.).  Dance / jog your way around to the music.  When the music stops, you must perform the exercise at that chair five times and sit down.  Can you be first to be seated?

This could be played in the garden if you have the space.

9.30am Independent reading

10am Comprehension

Re-read the DNA text and complete the 'Multiple Choice' activity.

10.15am Maths

Another chance to get some division practice in today.  MyMaths offers both arithmetic and word problems.  If you would like more arithmetic practice, there are further examples below.

11am Take a Break

11.20am Spelling

As well as the words from the Year 5 and 6 spelling list that you are expected to be able to spell, there are spelling rules and patterns you should know and be able to apply to your writing.  Below is a set of posters to help with this.  Today, focus on the first one: -tious and -cious.  Identify the root word of each of the words listed on the poster.

11.30am Writing

You should be at the final draft stage now with your writing.  Make sure this is your best version.

As well as everything else we've asked you to check for this week, have you considered your sentence structure?  Use short sentences to build tension or to draw the reader's attention to a particular point.  Use longer sentences to add detail and description.  Make sure you vary your sentence starter as well - it's all to easy to start with noun + verb each time.  Try using an -ed-ing-ly word instead.

Frustrated, the wolf wondered whether it wouldn't be easier just to pop to KFC.

Hoping to catch Goldilocks by surprise, the bears hid in the en suite.

Quickly, the Giant hurled his golden goose into the safe, locking it securely behind him.

Give some thought as to how you'll present this particular piece of writing as that's what we'll be asking you to do next week.

12.30pm Lunch

1.30pm RE

It's not long until Easter - the most important festival in the Christian faith.  There are several colours that are associated with the festival.  Can you think of a reason why each is used?  Answers on Monday.

black   red   white   blue   green   gold

1.45pm Enquiry

We really hope you've been using this opportunity to learn in a range of different ways and have enjoyed having some choice as to which aspects of the equiry you've focused on.  The weather has been super this week so we hope you've been able to enjoy it - keeping yourselves and others safe as you do so.

If you haven't done so already, see if you can learn a little bit of the language of the country you've chosen.  Can you say your name and where you live?

Again, spend about 60 - 90 minutes on this.

Wishing you all a fabulous weekend.  We'll be back here with more ideas for learning next week.  Take care.
