Hello Year 5! *virtual elbow bump*

We hope you are all okay... we're also finding it very peculiar not being in the classroom with you. We hope you are staying well!

Listed below is our suggested timetable for the day. Remember, you can adapt and edit the times you do these tasks to suit the timetable you have at home :-).

 Word of the Day:  Saturated

Like you would in school, look up what this word means, what word group it belongs to, place it accurately into a sentence and work out what prefixes/ suffixes could be added (remember this last one doesn't always apply!).

09:00 - 09:30: Reading.

Read your book for 15 mins or more.

  • Is there a bad or nasty character in your book? Draw a picture of them and write words and phrases from the text to describe them.
  • Could you create 3 similes about them?

If you’re reading a non-fiction book, choose 3 words which you do not know the meaning of and look them up.

09:30 - 10:30: Maths.

We are going to recap Bus-Stop Division. Remember to use your tables accurately.

Go through the video to remember the process of bus-stop and then answer questions on short division. Look at Short Division Questions.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FApcjdAhnrY

Challenge: Could you make up 3 word problems using the bus-stop method?

10:30 - 10:45: Break.

Have a snack and try to get some fresh air if possible. Don't forget the Joe Wicks workout videos as an alternative!

  • Can you create your own exercise routine for 10 mins? Try star jumps, knee rises, jogging on the spot. You could try it out on another member of your family!

10:45 - 11:15: Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar.

Adverbs: Think of 5 adverbs to describe how the Pied Piper of Hamelin moves

Write these in 5 complex sentences (use relative and subordinate clauses).

Now do the same with how the children move.

11:15 - 12:15: English.

Imagine you are reporter, working for The Hamelin Express, interviewing one of the parents.

Remember to introduce your report with the 5Ws - who, what, where, when and why (bottoms on a bench).

  • What questions will you ask?
  • How will the parent respond to really explain and describe what has happened?
  • How will you show their emotions?

Remember to round off with a conclusion too!

Use the additional resources which have been uploaded, to help you with your writing: Time Adverbials Word Mat and Time Conjunctions and Connectives Word Mat.

12:15 - 1:15: Lunch.

Be sure to have something to eat and try to get some fresh air! Use the above link if now is your time to check out Joe Wicks.

1:15 - 1:30: Quiet Reading.

Like we do in class with our Class Book, take a moment to do some quiet reading to yourself.

1:30 - 3:00: Music.

Listen to Holst’s 'Jupiter'.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gu77Vtja30c

  • What musical instruments do you hear?
  • How does the music make you feel?
  • Does it remind you of any other music?
  • Which do you prefer, Mars or Jupiter? Explain why.

Draw a picture to show what you think is happening in the music.

Take your learning further: what can you find out about Gustav Holst? Listen to the whole of the Planets. Which is your favourite?

Well done everyone, you have completed a week of Remote Learning! :-) We hope you are having time to enjoy the sunshine and your own activities too. We look forward to catching up with you on Monday. Have a great weekend!
